| Little Rescue Gizmo Just wanted to share a few things with everyone. Gizmo will not be available for adoption as quickly as I had hoped. He went to have his surgery today and was found to have stage 4 gum disease. Vet says he will be fine but needs to be on antibiotics for awhile before the surgery. The vet also thought he heard something strange in Gizmos heart beat, like a missed beat or beating to much, I am not sure on this but that is because he was concerned with getting this infection cleared up first because he stated that sometimes the infection can cause the heart to beat faster or slower or miss beats. He will now get neutered and have his dental and microchipping on the 26th of April. Everyone wants to know how much money I want for Gizmo and I would like to make one thing clear. I am not trying to make any money off of him, I would just like to be reimbursed for any money that I spend on him with all the medical things. The vet says that it should be 190.00 dollars total as long as there are no problems anywhere else with him. I do not rescue these babies to make a profit, I do it out of love for the breed. Also, I will want to do a home check and have vet refs on anyone that would be considering adopting him. I just need to be sure that he is going to the best home possible for him.

I do pray that all will be well with Gizmo after his antibiotics are done. I know he will feel so much better after those nasty teeth are taken of.

| We Understand [QUOTE=TxVicki;3872391]I totally understand where you are coming from. Being a Volunteer with a Rescue Group, it most certainly about the best interest of the of the dog. I agree with Vicki. I foster too. Sometimes I pay out of my pocket. It helps a lot to get that money (all or even just some) back. It allows me to help more precious dogs.

| I've rescued all of my dogs except for a Husky that my then boyfriend (now husband) got himself when we started dating. I don't have any problem paying for adoption fees. With rescues and shelters that are not for profit the fees are tax deductible. I know that they have usually spent a lot more on my dog than the adoption fee and even if they haven't I know that all fees will be used to help other dogs. I also feel good about paying an adoption fee to an individual person who rescues when they can as long as I know he/she not doing it for profit. I know that person needs to know the dog is going to a good place, and I hope to give them some or all of their money back to encourage them to help other dogs. |

When one baby foster had a respiratory infection, I took him at first cough to my vet...called in late to work to take him first thing, and, since he had something communicable, I called to let them know. They were immediately 'defensive' (understandably due to their non-profit status and reliance on $$$ donations as well as other material and food donations, volunteer workers, etc.) and said they wouldn't pay for his care since it was my vet...not theirs...and they did not pre-authorize payment. Do understand these were great people who really loved and cared about the animals. It took dense naive me a while to realize what they were saying...lol...since all I was doing was requesting they keep an eye on the others and tell the foster parents of his sister so they could watch out for the same condition in her...lol. Took me even longer to get them to realize I wasn't going to stick them with the bill...that all I cared about was he nor any others he had come in contact with, were going to die or even be ill. His and his sister were living in a culvert when found and their mom had been killed by a car...they were both very young...much too young for adoption, spay, neuter, shots, etc...which was why they needed fostering...and to socialize them for adoption...which I couldn't do...give them back, I mean...lol...so I adopted them all myself! It never even occurred to me to check to see if the money paid to adopt any of the HS babies was tax deductible. I only have 1 of that group left today...a 13 yr old feline, having lost the others recently, and he is alive because 2 yrs. ago an ER was able to clear a sudden urinary blockage until my vet could take over his care the next morning. Poor baby! What a horrible night that was! He's even more 'Mommy's Baby' than he was before. Come to think of it, poor checkbook, too...lol My point is, though, that if it isn't about them, it's for the wrong reason. I think it is so great what you are doing for Gizmo!

| Come to think of it, poor checkbook, too.. This is what I try to stress to everyone. These babies can cost and cost a lot. I have spent out of my pocket for Molly since I have had her. I have never gotten a dime from YTNR and that is ok with me because I have never asked them for anything. When she gets sick I do not have time to mess with the paperwork that it takes so I just take her to my vet. When DH came home and seen Gizmo, he asked me if I was getting a second job lol. I told him of course not, you are lol.

YT 1000 Club Member | You are doing a wonderful thing for these babies and I commend you highly. Anyone who truly loves and cares for animals will think of their health and well-being first and never the $$. Your rewards in life are/will be greater than anything money can buy... P.S.: I love animals dearly and when I retire (that's a long way though) I plan to dedicate my time to animal rescue.

| Why should anyone be upset with you? You're taking in a little man that needs your help and going above a beyond. In my opinion, no money in the world could pay for the kindness that you have shown Mr. Gizmo. Keep us updated on the little sweetie.
