| 2nd update on Dudley I would have updated sooner but we have been so sick with this crud that is going around. The vet called me Friday and seems looking at some further testing they did that Dudley did not swallow or chew on my eyeliner pencil. He had a small bacterial ulcer and still some of the gas on his little tummy. She said the antibotics he had been on would take care of the ulcer, it was real tiny the way she talked. But, I don't want it to happen again and I just don't know what food to feed him. Any suggestions would be welcomed and they are also on some good vitamins and I wonder if he should have probiotics. Alot of vets just don't go for vitamins or probiotics. What do you think??? I also feel so much better it wasn't my fault with dropping that pencil. I felt so guilty about the little thing having to go through surgery. He is doing fine and she said he could take a bath when the surgery is 2weeks old, which would be this Wed. |

| I would think a bland diet, but you should really discuss this with your vet, or a vet nutritionist. All manufactured dog foods already contain vitamins, so one needs to be careful when adding to the formulation. I would also seek a vet's opinion on the probiotics, as I am unfamiliar with their use in a dog with an ulcer. I wouldn't think they would hurt anything, but I'd feel better hearing that from a professional. Some contain digestive enzymes, so that would need to be taken into consideration also. Hope little Dudley is feeling all better soon...

| Well she kept him on the prescription food for just a week. Then, she said he could go back to his normal food. Its just that the Blue Buffalo puts so much gas on them and they all like it and eat it good. This past week Dudley has eat the canned, grain free. She said they did not need vitamins or probiotics. I was just wondering if anyone else uses them. Its just hard to know what to do. |

| I use probiotics with my vet's blessings... just keeps their systems on track and mine do alot better on them, especially Tink. I guess it wouldn't hurt considering he's back on a regular diet anyway. It is recommended to use them especially after a round of antibiotics to help restore the natural flora in their gut...

| So, then you just give them after antibotics and not all the time. I just don't want him to have another ulcer, even though it was tiny. I tried to get him to eat some plain yogart but he doesn't like it. |

| Mine tend to pick up something outside 3-4 times a year that causes them to have diarrhea... since antibiotics and running to the vets for this was getting old, she tried a different AB and put them all on probiotics for life, as they're better for them than taking ABs all the time. They haven't had diarrhea for about 3-4 years! Can you tell I love the stuff! I use Nature's Farmacy brand (water soluble type) Nature's Farmacy - Store - Product Details= Yogurt doesn't have enough bacteria in it to do a dog a lot of good, to see quick results, best to use a product made for dogs or some use probiotics for people.
