Shade Looking for louisiana yt!!!!!

Hello, I have read something very interesting on this site, but sad to say we dont have it here in Louisiana..We attend parties, wedding, birthdays, etc. but how often, r how many, of these places allow our furbies. Is there a meetup group in our state, if not how many would like to start one.. we can all talk about it, and see where it goes from there. I am very interested, my babies mean a lot to me, and although this site helps with a lot of questions, problems, and we can veiw photos of other babies, wouldnt it be fun for them as well as for us to allow them a chance to play with eachother.. just have a few hours to call their own time, as we as parents meet face to face..

let me know wut you all think.. no bashing one another, lets put our heads together and come up with something, or flat out weight the options of it working or not working.

established groups can also give their input, DO's, and DONT's.. etc.. any and all thoughts accepted.

I respect your decision to let your babies just be pets. I am next door in Texas. Wish we were closer and Tibbe and I could join you and your babies one day for a meet & greet. But maybe before long you will find Yorkie families closer to you and you all can form your fun group.

I am not far from you! Mine are my babies also. If you get a group together I would love to meet everyone. I am in Leesville.

Default Thank u both

I am new to the yorkie world, true i have had furbies all my life but never a yorkie..i have explored the internet day/night looking for questions i may have and questions i may face in the future. i came upon YT an loved the different topics all in one site..i was given my first baby, so i missed the early stages of his life, my vet was my only resource. now i have just purchased 2 more, i want to be all i can b for them..sharing info, do's-dont's, pics, and learning from others is wonderful.. i have never been a parent who leaves her kids at home alone, and most of my friends dont have furbies. the ones that do only have larger ones.. although we still get together sometimes i thought it would be nice to have a group formulated just for them. i think past groups has made a lot of ppl weary of such due to misrepresentation of themselves and the purpose of the group.. thanks again, but my quest for finding a group in my area, is slim to none, as well as hoping people would want such a thing.. i just thought i would ask anyway.

Just start small. That's what a few of us did here in Chicago. We have yet to meet with out dogs but we have had lunch a few times. It was a good time and lots of laughs. Try doing a search for your area and add in Yorkie Meet UP. You might be surprised at what you find.

My other suggestion is to look for a Yorkie rescue in your area. Many rescue could use volunteers at local Petco/Petsmarts for adoption events. Their are very passionate, dog loving people in their organizations that would love your help.

Prior to being a member of YHR, there was another rescue that I volunteered with and they always did Petco events. It's actually a good time. You might not be able to bring your dog along but you get to meet other people with your same passion and spend a little time with their fosters. If you are a social person it's a fun few hours of talking to the customers in the store about the breed and even doing a little education. When someone comes up to you to chat about a foster, they are all ears and willing to listen.

maybe if the town i lived in was a little bigger that would be an option.. we have no petsmart or yorkie rescue groups here, actually there arent any rescue groups, no city pounds.. if u have a problem with a stray, its the police that comes trap them and send them to Lord knows where! our closest Petco/Petsmart is 45min-1hr either side of me..im a regular at petsmart tho, other than that im my babies only platmate,, KMSL, but im ok with that.

On 10/13/2012, Woofstock SWLA will be at the Lake Charles Civic Center. I went last year and had great time. Maybe some of us can meet up there. It is a long time out but a great event.

P.S. Rescues and Vendors can start signing up. The have a Facebook page Woofstock SWLA for more information.

I guess maybe I'm too big city with everything within a few minutes drive of me. But I have to say that when I did do the weekend adoption event I drove about 45 minutes in each direction to participate. Have you ever looked into it or are you just assuming? Just because a rescue lists "Chicago" as their town doesn't necessarily mean they only have members in Chicago. For example, YHR now has members all over in many states and they are listed as TX. YTNR is listed as (I believe) IN and they have members all over the country as well.

yes i have looked into it, ive also asked other people about it before i got my two newbies..there is a shelter in Alexandria, LA(45min drv) that i visited alot looking for a baby to adopt, frequent customer at petsmart for the same reason when i realized i wanted a sis/bro for my cosmo. dont get me wrong, there were volunteer groups in Alexandria, but no dog social groups and thats what i am looking for. my hubby works offshore, so im home daily, when i am at work i have no choice but to leave my babies at home, but when im off, i cant leave them to volunteer somewhere where they arent allowed to attend..they go everywhere i go, except work. if i go pay bills, run errans, they r there, if my teenagers arent home..all of my off time is spent with them, i would be happy to volunteer anywhere if they are allowed, but i cant if they cant. i will google YTNR, i have never heard of it, but every/any info will help..thx.

We would to be apart of a group around simply to allow our babies(we just added a new boy), to play and socialize with other yorkies( dogs in the same size range). I think it would be great as long as it remained a casual, social type group. They are most definitively our babies... our family. We just want them to have some fun with other yorkies.

Abbeville area

YOU r so right, for the statement "as long as it stays casual & social'. and that is all i was looking for (something fun for my babies), hopefully a few more will see it our way so we can all get together, and they can make new friends.... thanks alot..
