| dewormer questions Hey all. Not sure where to post this. My puppy is 9 weeks old. He is up to 2.5 lbs. He has been wormed a total of four times (supposively twice by breeder and twice by my vet now). He is pee pad training indoors, so I am picking up poop. His last dose of dewormer was Saturday at vet, later that day I picked up a stool that had a rather large ?round worm ? in it (smooth and white but like spaghetti texture appeared dead not moving). His fecal was negative at the vets three weeks ago, and was not tested on Saturday (but he was given the dewormer, and will at every visit until hes 16 weeks they said). Should I call and tell them what I saw or is it normal to see a worm/worms soon after a dose of dewormer?

after they are killed off. Being that he is so young and tiny it would be a good idea to speak to your vet about this.. | |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | you need to speak to your vet, because he is very young and it all depends on when was he dewormed and if he still getting rid of the worms due to medication. hugs, |

| He was literally given a dose of dewormer at his vet appt at around 12:30 pm, and I found the worm about 4-5pm the same day. Ill call vet now and make sure its ok.

| well just got off phone with vets office, they said that its normal to have some worms after a deworming and that that means they are jumping ship so to speak and dying off even. They went on to tell me that the heart worm medication he was started on this week also helps with other worms too, so he is being treated from all angles right now to get rid of these pesky worms. When I inquired about the negative fecal she said it can be tricky because the fecal they do checks for worm eggs, and if they are not shedding any or reproducing when they check they wont show up, which is why they deworm all puppies until they are 16 weeks every 3 weeks, then less frequently.
