| New Yorkie Questions My new Yorkie is 11 months old. 1. I hear people talking about color party colored yorkies etc. Until I read those posts, not just here but other places, I thought my dog was Yorkie colored, not Party so correct me if I am wrong. Are Yorkies supposed to be only 2 colors because .. Soup is primarily white on the top of the head, sort of blonde or more yellow on the face and below her ears, silver over her back with streaks of black. Is that Party colored? Have a friend who raised poodles and she always said that Parti-Poos were not a good thing. 2. I prefer for Soup to use puddle pads rather than go outside - I have had her less than 48 hours and she was not going outside or inside and finally she did go pee-pee outside and to hear me carry on and praise her you would think she discovered the cure for cancer .. I have pee pads everywhere and a few minutes later she pooped in the middle of the kitchen on the tile. That's ok. She watched me flush it and I told her "yuck." Do most of you use puddle pads? I want to try and keep her flea free - I am in Florida. 3. My last question is this. Are Yorkies swimmers? We have a pool and I was wondering if I was outside would she jump in the water? Should I keep a float on her ?? Or do they not like the water .. That's all for now .. Thanks. |

| I can answer question 2 and 3 I use potty pads but Brandi does go outside as well. I have the best of both worlds that way. She hates going outside in the winter and when its raining so she uses her potty pads. It's also great because I don't have to worry about her holding it all day while I'm at work. As for yorkies loving water, some do and some don't. My Brandi hates the water. Because you have a pool, you should train your little one on how to get out of the pool in case she falls in with no one around. Some people place the little ones in the pool at different points and make them swim to the steps. This way no matter where they are in the pool, they will always know how to get out. Accidents do happen and its better to be safe than sorry. |

| Hi. You might want to post a photo of Soup...it might help to get opinions on your baby. Besides, we'd like to see her! The standard for a Yorkshire Terrier is that of a blue and tan dog that cannot have more than 1" of white in any direction and only on the chest. More white than that is a disqualification. Parti-colored Yorkies cannot be shown in conformation AKC shows. You can search on the internet for the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America (YTCA) and/or the American Kennel Club (AKC) for the full standard. However, there are some absolutely gorgeous Parti's out there...and here on YT, also !!! The answer that some dogs like water and some don't is right on...find out which is your Soup's attitude. If she likes it, make sure she is protected. If she doesn't, make sure she is prevented and/or protected from anything accidental causing a serious issue. You might want to train her for the water anyway, and as was suggested, make sure she can get out if she falls in accidentally. Swimming is, I believe, a natural instinct for dogs, but so is fear and some have more of one than the other. Besides, there are really cute doggie swim items you can check into, too. I am wondering why your "friend who raised poodles...always said that Parti-Poos were not a good thing" though. Did she elaborate at all as to the reason? I am just curious, mind you...!

| My fife loved water, he had water therapy after after hip and knee surgery then took him to swim all the time, he would start to doggie paddle over water always made me laugh they say lots of dogs do that. Shaffer didn't like the water but would run from the waves whe we are at the beach house. Cooper likes it not loves. You can get a dog life jacket maybe get your dog use to it early. |

| Ziva uses a tray and newspaper in the garage at night but since we are training Abby for outside only she has been going outside- sure is easier for cleanup! My dogs are limited to a fenced side yard, we treat for insects outside the fence and Ziva(3 yrs)has never had flea treatment, I fine comb every day and after walks. We use minksheen shampoo- if I did see a flea I would be at the vets same day. Ziva swims amazingly well- can get to the steps once she is in, we do not allow her to jump in. Abby(8 months)will start swim lessons next month! We will see! |

| As for my friend who raised poodles - She raised for show and so the Parti colors were disqualified. - nothing more than that. She had many champions and so she would sell any parti-poos without papers. I am not going to show or breed, so it is just a question .. I posted one picture of Soup yesterday in the intro section .. I will figure out how to post a few more .. somewhere .. They are not great - taken with my iphone. Also, the pool thing. I mostly don't want her just jumping in the pool when my back is turned - it isn't screened so I can't just let her out the back door. |

| You certainly would not want her in the pool without you knowing...too dangerous. Ahhh...Parti-colored Poodles...I thought you meant Parti-'Yorkie'-Poos. Certainly if Parti coloring is a disqualification, you wouldn't want that coloring in a show dog. I do not believe I've ever seen a photo of a Parti-colored Poodle...I'll have to look for one. I will look for your photos of Soup...
