| Traveling with my yorkie on Air Canada Hi guys, I hope you are doing well. I stumbled upon this forum and was amazed to see this yorkie living forum. My wife and I are traveling from Toronto to Los Angelas using air Canada. As most of you could imagine our 3.5 yr old yorkie named snickers means the world to us, he is our baby. We are traveling with him in the cabbin. We have got the medium sized Sherpa pet carrier which fits air Canada's dimensions and have reserved spaces for him on the plane already. However we are super apprehensive taking him as this will be our first time taking him on a plane. Has anybody taken their yorkie on air Canada? If so experiences? What are some tips for first time parents taking their pet on a plane? I've heard pros and cons about sedatives. We are basically looking for tips that will help calm our yorkie and his parents Thanks in advance |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I travelled to Oregon on Air Canada. Is this a direct flight? In the travelling forum there is a thread about a great travel with your dog website; in a moment or two I will see if I can find it for you. What I would suggest is get your pup used to this new carrier. Use it a couple of times a week - ie make short trips to the store with Snickers. Hopefully he will quickly get used to this new carrier. Then speak to your vet about a sedative for your boy. I would try it out in advance of flight, you want to know now, if he will have a bad reaction or not to the sedative. I lined the bottom of my carrier with a small peepad - just in case. I also brought some mini bottles of shampoo and conditioner with me in case of accidents that required a thorough clean up. Handiwipes for mini clean up. Get a small water bottle you can attach to the crate - in fact get it now so your pup can learn to drink from it while he is in the crate. If you have to change planes or have a lay over somewhere, often times the airport you arrive in, has a doggy relief area. You can go on-line and look it up in advance. Here is what I packed/travelled with for the flight: 1) All doggy documention. His Rabies, his registration certificates, name of his vet and contact numbers. Secondary emergency contact number for him. I had his microchip information and how to contact them in case of loss or theft. 2) Mini clean up kit. Shampoo conditioner, brush, handi wipes. 3) His food that he is used to eating. Get the smallest bag you can, and pack it in your suitcase along with his food bowl. 4) emergency kit. 5) His blankey and some toys 6) Extra leash and halter. Actually when-ever I go out I always stick an extra leash in my pocket. Had one break on me once, and lesson was learnt. 7) Location of vet at my destination that was closest to my hotel I was staying at. On arrival I buy bottled water for him to drink throughout our stay. Then I was familiar with the rules at my hotel, searched for doggy friendly to do activities where I was staying, and any cafes etc, that might allow pups to accompany me. I am guilty of a time or two, sneaking him in, in my purse carrier, as I don't like to leave him unattended in the hotel room. Enjoy your trip.

| Thank you so much. Yes this is a direct flight? How was Air Canada? Were they a good pet friendly airline? I read some pretty mixed reviews. I have printed out this reply as my checklist. |
