| Bad Situation My shih tzu died a few weeks ago and I was so heartbroken and lost without a little one running around that I decided to get a Yorkie. After talking my husband into it I found a lady who was selling a breeding pair. (excuse my stupidity - I think I was too excited to ask the right questions) The girl is 3 years old and the boy 4 years old. She told me she had to get rid of them due to her living conditions and that they were both peepad and kennel trained and that the mom is pregnant. I met her to buy the dogs and they are worse for wear! Very dirty, long nails, bad breathe etc - not well looked after. So I took them. Getting home I soon discover they are not trained and the boy is peeing all over my house and spraying everywhere. And they bark all night long in the kennel. I googled this ladies phone number and found out she was selling yorkie puppies in February of this year - so needless to say - I am pretty sure she is not pregnant but just had puppies. I tried phoning the lady but of course she is not answering. I'm not sure what I should do - pretty sure I got screwed. Asked for registration info and she said she didn't have the paperwork - but I could send in blood samples to get them CKC and AKC registered... now I find out that is not true either! Any suggestions??? |

| I would just love them and try to train them. Perhaps they weren't used to being in crates afterall. Do you have an ex-pen you could try letting them sleep in there with piddle pads and water. See how that goes. Are you planning on getting them both fixed or were you planning on breeding as well? Have you taken them to a vet to have them health checked and get their nails trimmed or were you able to trim their nails?

| Yorkies I was hoping to breed them.... In fact she told me the girl was pregnant - now to find out she has had puppies in January. I have not taken them to the vet as of yet - but will be taking them in on Tuesday when the vet is in. As of today they have disconnected their phone. I really wanted a registered Yorkie to insure health and wellness and bloodline. I took her word and figured I could register with the blood test. |

| Not sure if it is true....but i have heard it is very hard to housebreak a boy if he has been bred. They want to mark everything to get their sent out to any females. Has anyone else heard this, and please correct me if I am wrong |

| Yes unfortunately he is spraying the whole house - and it is an awful smell.... so I really hope I can get him out of this. And I fear that the mom has been overbred - She is 3 and she has had 2 sets of pups from what I understand. I googled her phone number and seen she had listed yorkie-apso pups a year ago and listed yorkie teacups this year.... And she did tell me she had 2 sets. So, being only 3 isn't that too many pups? I have not trimmed the nails yet - I was going to let the vet do that next week when I take them in for a look over. As well, the girl is really itchy (she is shaved) but is scratching her body and face all the time - anyone know why? |

| I am glad you found Yorkie talk. We can help you with lots of information. I am Not going to lecture you here today. After you follow this site for awhile you will learn how to see red flags when you want to buy a Yorkie. You will learn how to find a good breeder. If you don't want to keep the dogs please contact a Yorkie rescue, they will find good homes for the dogs. I am sorry this happened. You have been scammed, by what sounds like a back yard breeder of the worst kind. Sometimes being a breeder sounds like a lot of fun, who doesn't just love cute puppies ? I hope you read some of the stories we have in the library. Because becoming a breeder should not be a snap decision. Good breeders spend thousands of dollars , training, testing, and selecting the best Yorkies they can get. They follow pedigrees for generations and have the real goal of improving the breed. The pair you have described does not sound like the best of the best or a good foundation stock, does it ? If you just want a doggy to love perhaps you have found the perfect pair. I am so glad you have made a Vet appointment and would suggest spay and neuter ASAP. (Any puppies they would have will not sell for much, and who knows what unknown problems you might face.) Many, many experienced breeders don't break even, after Vet costs. I hope you are as good a person as I think you are, you loved a Shi tuz so I think you could fall in love with these two little Yorkies. We can help you with training ideas and prayers. Best Wishes Teresa and the Just Right Yorkies gang

| Ahhh, so you've rescued a couple Yorkies! Don't feel bad, you were trying to do the right thing, unfortunately your learning the hard way. Sounds like they have not been all that socialized? I'm guessing. You must first decide how you want to proceed, do you want to keep them? If not than you need to go to her home immediately. If you do, and I'm hoping you do, take them to a vet asap, don't wait. Get them thoroughly checked out and talk openly and honestly to your vet about your plans. Your vet will probably be able to guide you in the right direction. Don't spend too much time trying to guess anything about these dogs, and at this point I wouldn't believe anything this "breeder" has told you. Unfortunately, because you have no idea about these dogs and probably never wil,l I would strongly suggest you not breed them. Perhaps I'm wrong and I'm sure others will pipe in soon who have more experience with this. Anyway, regardless of what you decide I would get them both in to a vet immediately, and then take it from there. If you do keep them you should also get them in to a training specialist or behavioralist. I wish you alot of luck.

| I'm no expert but she may be itching from the food she was on or even allergy. If they were not taken care of well she probably fed them a poor grade of food. I would put them on a good food to start. Poor babies! So glad they have someone to give them better care! |

| Thank you so much for all your input. And I am sure you are all right.... after having the dogs at home for a few hours I knew rights away they were not socialized very well. From the way they behave I would say they were locked up until they were let out to breed. I am pretty sure the mom got more attention as she tends to listen more. I was able to change their names and have them come to their new names in only a matter of a day - so I think that speaks volumes for a set of dogs that are 3 and 4 years old! Now, when I had my shih tzu... he had a series of shots before he turned 1 then had shots every year after that. These dogs came with a piece of paper with only 3 shot stickers on them. I really hope the vet can help out with the missing links. Who knows if the birth dates are even correct. At this point I have no idea what I am going to do. I don't really want to just surrender the dogs and be out $3900 - I know that might sound heartless - but that is really a lot of money! I have thought of maybe selling the male - and letting the new owners know he needs to be neutered. But right now everything is up in the air until I speak with my husband. I do know that if we do keep these pups breeding is out of the question. I feel as though the mom has been bred way too much for her age. |

| I can't believe I wrote that above, DO NOT TAKE THEM BACK to her home, unless you really, really have to. Also, long story short - a friend of mine was going through a similar thing last summer, she received a very unhealthy female. It was obvious once we got her home. A quick visit to the vet and this dog needed immediate care that cost thousands. She couldn't get ahold of the seller (disconnected phone) but was able to find where she lived, went to the local police station and told them she scammed them and explained that she wanted to press charges. The police went to her house and came back with the CASH.....so I wouldn't hesitate to go to a police station near her home... just sayin....

| Since you "met" the seller it sounds like you did not go to her kennel. Whether that is the case or not, I suspect your pair came from a puppy mill and your male is marking because he's a stud dog who knows no better and has never been trained. Neuter both of them as both have probably been bred to the point of system exhaustion, nurture and love them and let them relax and enjoy the rest of their lives with lots of love, patience, indulgence, regular vet/dental care, grooming, good, nutritious food and lots of exercise and play time. Read up on potty training and put them on a little schedule so they will know when it is time to eat, play, potty and sleep. You will be richly rewarded for giving a good home to two poor little things who've not been treated well at all, it sounds like.

| She was feeding them petigree vitality - which I thought was fine (before I got them) I was actually happy that was what she was feeding them - I had tons left over from my dog passing.... Then i got the little ones home - took one look at them and their size and a look at the size of the dog food and thought no way!!! I went to the store and got Cesar Filet Mignon Flavour - Is this good food for them? |

| No I did not go to the sellers house - she actually lives 5 hours away from me and met me half way. I think that should have been a red flag! She does have other items listed on kijiji so I was able to get her address. I have sent her an email telling her I would contact the police. Really at this point I just want answers. The dogs will NOT be going back to her - but I do want to know some truths about these pups. |
