Default 2 puppies from the same litter?

I would love to hear anyone's experiences with bringing home 2 puppies from the same litter? The good, the bad and the ugly.

Thor and Little Bit are from the same litter but I have had them since they were born. Most of the time they are just fine but every once in awhile they tie into a fight.

I dont have 2 pups from the same litter but they have the same father and are a month apart in age and I got them both when they were pups, they are very close like they are siblings though, I would seriously be concerned about either one of them if something happened to the other one. I have cats from the same litter and you can tell they will clean each other and lay by one another and play together it is cute, Ive really enjoyed both the yorkie pups together experience and the cat sibling exoerience and now I will always have siblings if I ever get dogs again or cats

I got 2 of my Yorkies 4 weeks apart,( they are only 6 weeks difference in their age) but not from the same litter, it was easier because they had a companion and learned from each other especially potty training, they are male and female. Had them spayed/neutered at the same time also. I have 4 Yorkies 3 have the same parents but are from different litters.

clearing my throat ah um... Sorry but my experience was awful trying to train two puppies at once. The house breaking and basic training.... OMG about drove me to the 'I admit I am Crazy' place. Ginny Joy and Abba are not from the same litter but are only 8 weeks apart in age and it was very hard. I have always been able to focus on one puppy at a time. This was stressful because my usual methods didn't work very well. (I often use umbilical tethering for about 2 weeks a puppy and I bond and live like a real Mama and child) I felt it was more difficult to establish bonding with the pups because the were totaly involved with each other. ( I had 3 adult Yorkies too. My adults were and are used to being around foster dogs. They often help me teach fosters potty training and doggy rules.) So for me not so good. They are a year old now and no problems. It looks like my story is the exception. Good Luck !

My girls are from the same litter and they were bonded from birth...the breeder said they slept, played and ate together from the very first day...they even move the same! First I thought it was a ploy to get me to take 2 but it wasn't....their bond is obvious and amazing!

They are now 4 1/2 and were spayed at 2 1/2.....they've never had a fight or even a little disagreement and we had no trouble training them.

I know not everyone has the same experience we've had but.....I wouldn't have it any other way

Oh that sounds so cute, I don't think that's the usual thing that happens, but when it does, it's amazing, and I'm glad you were able to keep them together.

Years ago my female Shih Tzu had pups. I kept two, a boy and a girl. They were devoted to each other. When one was scratching his ear the other was scratching their ear. The female was the boss and they never fought except about food. When the female passed the boy greived for months - howling and walking about the house looking lost. It was very sad. It took about 6 months of this before he adapted to life without her. Now I have learned when I have two - like a dog and a cat - if one is being put down I take the other with me and let them smell their friend and this has worked towards the greiving.
Every time I have a pet pass I swear that I will never get another because it hurts too much BUT I always end up with another fur kid.

What a sweet story, I think taking the other one with you when you have to put one down is a great idea, I think this really helps them understand. I know what you mean about the pain of losing one. I hate to think about it, but I'm even more afraid that I will die and Joey will be left behind, I can't bear that either.

I have had lots of 2's, 3's, and 4's...cats and dogs...from the same litter without serious issues. I have also fostered/adopted kittens and had the kitten bond with an existing older, male cat with them being almost inseparable, too.

I had 2 red (yellow-colored) males who were very close...my "Butterscotch Twins" and when one passed at 13 months old, the other was as distraught as I was over the loss of my little heartbeat kitty. Although he passed, too, a few weeks ago at almost 14 years old, I think he missed his brother his entire life. I still have 2 of that litter of 4, but the only female has not been close to her brothers like her brothers were close to each other since they quit the kitten-hood playing.

Brody and Mia are 6 days apart. Brody was 14 months old when we got him. Three months later, we took Brody to see if he got along with Mia, who is 5 days older than Brody but both were 17 months old by then. They were great friends almost immediately and remain so.

I think it depends on the animals themselves, and how the owners handle them might make a difference also. If you are considering getting 2 who are already close, you will probably not have serious issues. If you get 2 who already compete or fight, maybe not a great idea.

My first two girls, Zada and Azrael are 1st cousins and only 6 weeks apart. They were very bonded until I got Razael 18 months later and Razael attached herself to Azrael in a major way. Now I have a 6 month old who loves Zada AND Razael, but doesn't pay any attention to Azrael. It's going to be very interesting to see how this plays out. They all get along perfectly though.

I got a Yorkie and a Maltese at the same time, they're 3 days apart. They came from different breeders in different parts of the state. I am so glad that I did. Even though the puppy part was a bit crazy, the overall experience was wonderful! There was never any separation anxiety or fighting with the two. They have always been very loving towards each other. They are both female. One year later I added a male puppy to our family. Another Yorkie!!!! I guess I'm a glutton for punishment!!LOL my three are now 2 years and the male is 1. Puppy stage over and all is good!!!

I have two puppies I kept from a litter of my own. They're both 3.5 mos old now. Both mom and dad around 5lbs. Annie is 1.5lbs at 3.5 mos and Pichirisca is 6lbs at 3 mos. It's pretty funny seeing them together. I'll post a picture for you to see.

The rest of my post.... As far as training, its not a problem, I have 3 other YTs as well. The only issue is Pichi gets left out a lot. Most people find Annie appealing (she is the ideal Yorkie). Beautiful coat and tiny, she is absolutely beautiful. So she gets most of the attention while we're out. People wait in line for a picture with her, I have had out of no where offers from $1200-3500 for her (I would never sale her, she is priceless). Pichi is just as beautiful to me but she's often left sitting in my lap watching everyone else adorn Annie. I am worried a jealousy issue might arise between the two. I am currently dealing with major jealousy issues amongst my adult YTs right now. So I hope this doesn't affect Pichi in the long run. Other than that, everything is fine. I enjoy having two puppies who are the same age. It's interesting to watch them development differently.
