| Introduction hi my name is stacey and i got my yorkie puppy 4 weeks ago. Her name is paislee "cocoa" . I have been a cat owner in the past and due to shedding and my kids allergies we had to find a new home for jasoer our cat. We got cocoa and love her. I think things are going well although there are some issues that i am concerned about some of them are that she is beginning to go beyond the puppy biting and starting to nip even at our lips and ears when we hold her. I cant brush her she attacks the brush lol and then she has this souns she makes alot when she runs and plays and it sound like shes sniffing, im just concerned she is having breathing problems. I over worry. She also used to like to sit with us alot but now she just bites at us and then wants down. Any advice

How old is Cocoa? Usually puppies learn not to bite from their moms during between 8-12 weeks of age. Work on teaching her the words, "no bite." Remove your hands so that she nothing to bite at, and don't hold her close to your head. If you are cuddling her close to your head, she is probably treating your head the way a pup treats litter mates -- wrestling and nipping. Give her a toy or something say to chew and nip at. Always be calm and confident when you correct her, never angry. Yorkie puppies can be little balls of energy and don't always want to sit and cuddle. For brushing, work with her each day. Choose a time when she is worn out from playing. The more relaxed she is, the more likely she will accept grooming. Massage before brushing has always worked with my boys. Touch her ears, paws, belly, everything each day. Be patient. Let her sniff the brush. Praise her when she lets you brush. Reward her with a small treat.

| cedric did this with biting and the above advice is good...be consistant and when it hurts say ouchie. it takes a bit and be sure there are plenty of safe/good things for to chew on. as far as brushing you gotta just let them sniff and get used to it. i had to go through 4 or 5 brushes until i found one he was ok with that didnt hurt him. good luck and welcome to yt.

| Bailey bit me on the lip once. Only once . . . . When he did it, I sternly said: Don't bite your daddy! He actually understood and now when we play just like we did the day he bit me, he licks me instead. I wasn't mean, I didn't touch him, but at the exact moment of contact, I had mind enough to tell him not to do it again. He actually got it and life is good! |
