Newbie with some questions!! Hi Everyone!! I just got my new furball, he is 4months old and 3lbs, his name is Tank I've been reading a lot on here and have found some great advice, but I am new to puppy training especially with potty training so any advice is greatly appreciated!! I have been crate training, and I am following a schedule I found on here actually...I do cheat a little bit and let him out if he hasn't been whining to snuggle with me at times. I have a question though, I am having trouble figuring out if while he is in his crate and whining if it means he needs to go potty or if he is just trying to get out of his crate? I don't let him out or talk to him if he is whining because I don't want to teach him that it is a good behavior. And also, I have had him for only 3 days now but he still doesn't eat much at meal times, I have tried mixing hot water in with his dry food (food I was given when I picked him up because I didn't want to change his food) the hot water seems to help a little but he still doesn't eat enough, and he hasn't pooped yet. I have the nutri gel that I give him to ensure he gets his vitamins and he loves that stuff. Any help is greatly appreciated and sorry this was so long! Thanks, Gina

I just got through that with Joel, hes about 10 weeks and already knows only to whine in his crate to go potty. And what I did was at night I put him in the crate and say "bed" and if he whines or barks I take him out and say "potty" and obviously dont play with him or anything, and at first I had to go back and forth saying bed and potty until he knows thats all im doing when he wines and now when he makes noise im actualy able to ask him if he needs to go potty! Ill say "potty?" And if he needs to go he'll come out and if hes faking he will lay down lol. But also make sure they arent hungry or thirsty, and joel just started not waking me in the night, yay!

And for the eating,I had Joel for a couple weeks and I just got him eating half a cup in a day! What I found that works with Joel is if I play with his food in front of him and also pretend you dont want him to get it, sometimes when Joel doesnt want to eat i'll pretend to spill some and pick it up real fast lol and then hell start eating. And if you have another dog feed him his food in front of him, that also makes Joel eat. Hope that helps. Last edited by ilovejoel; 02-18-2012 at 03:48 PM.

Thanks for the tips! He actually doesn't wake me up at night at all, he's pretty quiet until he sees me sit up then he starts whining to get out. I will try the food trick and see if that helps any!!

Hi congrats on your new baby . Tank is a great name. I am not the best one to give potty training advice . I am still working on my furball , he is 5 months. As for feeding tank , i don't think a 3 pound puppy is going to eat much anyway. I know some people leave food out all day. Or you could split up his meals and maybe try 2 tbs 4 times a day.

| Hopefully Tank is starting to eat better, but can I suggest you have some Nutical on hand? You don't want him to get hypoclycemic because he is not eating well!! What type of food is he on?
