| crate training I have a wire crate and when I brought jasper home we put a blanket in it and left the door open for the first two days. Sometimes he would sleep in it and other times he sleeps outside it. Last night I put him in the crate with the door shut (for bed) and he whined for maybe 8 minutes and slept til 130 after going pee he whined for like 15 minutes and was mad. After peeing at 330 he was whining even more. When he peed at 530 he whined all the way til 645 when I got up and brought him out to let him run around. I don't know how to get him to not whine for long periods of time every time. I am going to move his crate into my bedroom tonight but I don't want it to be that he gets so stressed everytime that he gets hurt. Help PLEASE.

| I have always put a blanket or quilt over my dogs crates, it makes it more den like. Just remember to never get him out when he is whining or crying, when he quietens down for a bit then let him out.

| You have to remember everything is new to him and he probably misses his siblings and mom. The first few weeks with Callie were the same way but soon she only wanted to get up once a night and then at 6am for the day. Now she is 4 and will sleep until 11am. Moving the crate into your room is a good thing to do because he went from sleeping with his siblings and mom to well nothing and not even being able to see anyone could be scary. He isn't going to hurt himself by just crying so when he is doing it after you already took him to the potty ignore him because if you talk to him or take him out he will whine every time because it makes things happen.

| Constant crying... All night Hi all. I recently adopted a 9 wk old Yorkie and he is such a loveable little guy, but crate training is rough going. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is normal for a puppy to cry non-stop all night long? I have taken him out to potty right before putting him in the kennel and he usually goes so I know it is not that and I have put him in my room next to the bed so he can see me as well as in another room with other dogs, but he still cries non-stop. Will this end in a couple weeks or am I going to have a puppy who hates the kennel? I am welcome to any suggests...: |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | ok this is how I do besides I start crate training at 7 weeks, the pups get move from the day pen to the night crate so they get use to the crate, with the crate in your bedroom, cover the crate, make sure the pad is soft, this is how my dogs crate look, http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/IMG_0282.jpg did your breeder gave you a blanket with your baby that smells like the litter and mama? if not then get a t shirt and put it on and wear it to sleep one day, and that will be his favorite crate blanket, my yorkie still carries around the piece of fleece i got from he breeder 3 years ago. I also recomend to my puppy parent to invest in a bottle of Confort zone, it helps with dogs stress, i have a diffuser in my bedroom, which I share with my pack and right now a litter of 6 . let me know if you have any specific questions, also when you put your baby to bed, give him a lil piece of a treat, that way he/she will associate the crate with a good thing.. hugs, |

| Sorry to say the breeder didn't give me anything like that. Thank you for the suggestion about the shirt, I will definitely try that because I am up for anything. I have told him to be quiet, but he just keeps crying. I just want him to be able to sleep and not cry or be stressed out all night. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Some breeders dont think about the well being of the puppy and the human once they let their pups go.. cover the crate with a light piece of fabric and give him a piece of your clothing while you make one that will belong to him/her. also if you have a stuff toy it will help, litters sleep very close together your pup is just feeling lonely.. hugs, |

| Such Good Advice When I crate trained my Chihuahua I was lucky. She kinda took to it, BUT I did know to place my t-shirt in there along with a toy. I'm gonna suggest going to the thrift store and stocking up on baby towels, baby blankets and t-shirts for your crate because the baby will have plenty of accidents. That means plenty of doggy laundry. LOL You don't want to have to use all of your favorite tees for the baby. I have bought all of my baby's blankets & towels from the thrift store. Both of the girls have receiving blankets and the baby towels with the little hood. It's cheap, and if they get torn, damaged, or stained, it's not a big deal. Remember, (s)he is just a baby and crying & whining comes with the territory. They;ll be fine. Just give plenty of hugs & kisses when they come out of the crate. |
