Yorkie Yakker | She pees in her sleep!! My 7month old yorkie (Lucy) pees in her sleep (shell wet her bed and any blanket shes laying on). Ive consulted a vet and her tests show that nothing is wrong. I dont know if its because she is still at a young age.... Anyways she has puppy diapers (lol) she wears them only at night when shes sleeping or under my supervision because she is a chewer and im afraid shell eat her diaper (she likes to bite everything). I just wanted to know if anyone has had this issue or knows why this happens??? Any advice will be appreciated.

Paris: Always in my ♥ Donating YT Member | Do you take her out to potty right before bed? Maybe limit her water after dinner? Paris lost control of his bladder a few times, but he was very old. |

Yorkie Yakker | She drinks a lot of water throughout the day (she puts all her head in the water bin :P) and i take her out to potty every night before bed too ...she is potty trained to go indoors and outdoors and I always keep a potty pad in my room in case of any emergency. Ill go ahead and try to limit her water at night to see if that helps.

| Was she spayed young? How about trying Proin?

Yorkie Yakker | She is not spayed since I plan to breed her later on.....I havent tried any medication since the Vet did a full check up and her results a excellent. I didnt try Proin since I read of the side effects and in recent studies a high precent of the animals that use this medication die of strokes. Although, strokes aren't mentioned as a side effect of Proin, but there are enough cases after treatment to suggest there is a possible correlation. ´ I was just thinking since this only happens in her sleep (and not every night) and not during the day that it might still be because she is 7 months old....but i dont know....i guess ill have to wait and see if she grows out of it....

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I would limit her water intake late in the evening and totally cut off her liquids at least two hours before bed time. See if that works for her. If not, than you may want to go out with her to see if she is actually relieving herself or is she getting distracted. If she is not going when you think she is.. than that would mean that she is gong to bed with a full bladder and thats not good.

| I hope that your vet can figure out what is going on with your girl, maybe a urologist would be a good idea. I would not breed this girl as you could make her incontinence much worse & depending on the cause, possibly pass the problem on to her pups. |

| My Maggie was peeing in her sleep as she was spayed youngish. We've had her on Proin liquid and she's done amazingly well. We are able to give it to her every other day now. She gets a tiny amount of it.

| We have never had this problem, but you may want to try waking her up in after a few hours and taking her out...... that little girl may just be sleeping so hard that she doesn't wake up? does she get much sleep during the day?

| Wanted to add, when dogs have seizures while asleep they will wet during the seizure too & they don't always make noise while doing it. I would pay close attention to her while she's sleeping to see if there could be anything that catches your attention. |

| Mine does this too, but not very often. She is 2 1/2 years old, and sometimes when she's sleeping really hard on our lap in the evening, this will happen. She's VERY well potty trained & has a doggy door, so I know it isn't behavioral. She checked out fine at the vet as well, so not sure what the problem is. The last time I had this problem with my maltese (12 yrs old), she had a very uncommon bacterial infection. Funny thing was Bayleigh had the same thing happen shortly after and she had no infection...go figure. I hope you find out what's causing this. |

| Ziva wets herself also. Her nickname is " pee puddle" She is almost 3 and on an extremely small dose of Proin, it works well.Someone here on YT decribed the problem very well and called it overflow incontinence. Ziva pees when she has had a busy day (she rarely naps and is high energy) and falls deep asleep on my lap. She has a very small bladder content- the proin has helped with this as she has gotten older she can hold more. Without the Proin she cannot catch it in time she will wet and then run to potty. She is very well potty trained and is very upset when she does pee herself. |
