| Dealing with Hypoglycemia Hello everyone! I have a friend who just joined the yorkie band wagon. (Yay!) She adopted her baby about a week ago from a local shelter. & like a lot of adoptees and rescues he didn’t come in the best of health. He has hypoglycemia and she says he shakes and shivers really badly. (Is that normal because I’ve seen a lot of small breed dogs do this, but neither of mine have done, well unless they were cold). Ok, so she doesn’t know how to deal with his episodes. She keeps calling me, but I’ve never had to deal with hypoglycemia. So I can’t really give her advice… Well besides take him to the vet. I know some of you have babies with hypoglycemia, any little helpful facts would be appreciated. Like how could she keep his episodes down to a minimum? I think she said he’s had 4 episodes in 1 week. His name is Timmy. They think he is about 1 and a half, and is 5lbs

| Well she can give nutrical to stay it away but the most important thing she can do is make sure hes eating a good protein enriched food. If I had one that had hypoglycemia issues I would leave a kibble out all day and let the dog free feed then feed canned food through out the day. I dont know if this is a pup or an adult but adults dont generally have hypoglycemia so if it is an adult I would do a bile acid test to test for liver shunt because it can bring on hypoglycemia issues

| Hypoglycemia is not normal for an adult dog. Is the the only symptom shaking? Could he just be cold? Has she tried putting a shirt or sweater on him? If he is having other symptoms and its truly hypoglycemia then she needs to talk to her vet about it pretty quickly.

| I'm not sure if the shaking is from him being cold or not. I asked her and she says she bought him a sweater. (They live all the way in Oregon, so I can't really visit). She said he's not eating well either. I told her about the bile acid test and she made him an appointment on Teusday.
