| Lepto vaccine - PLEASE advise Hello! Sophia and Peyton have their dentals on the 27th, so tomorrow they go in for blood work. I am planning on getting them the Lepto vaccine for the first time ever tomorrow. I've discussed this with my vet and she recommends it because she said Lepto is prevalent in our area. We have lots of woods and lots of raccoons. So, what do I need to know? What are the side affects to watch for? Is there anything I can do in advance to help? Sophia is 7 yrs and 7.5 lbs. Peyton is 1.5 yrs and 5 lbs. Neither have ever had this vaccine. Thanks.

| I don't have any advice on that one except if you trust your vet go for it. I'm assuming they might be a little sore from it. BTW...they are beautiful. |

| My vet keeps the pup for a couple of hours after the vaccine if there is reaction concern. Also, he premeds before vaccine in case of reaction. You could discuss this w your vet if you are concerned about reaction. Also, Children's Benadryl is a good thing to keep at home just in case. You can ask your vet what the correct dose is for your little ones' sizes.

| After Sophia got the vaccine, she slept all day and had some tenderness at the injection site. So, it was maybe a day and a half of her sighing in discomfort when we picked her up. Then she was good as new!!

My vet says he is keeping the small toy dogs a little while after the vaccine more often these days. He said he sees more reaction in daschunds than yorkies in his practice, but he likes to err on the side of caution w the little ones. He also recommends giving the Lepto separate in the little ones.

| We gave Tink the lepto vaccine. Our property is mostly wooded with lots of wildlife and she goes all kinds of places with me. We watched her at the vet clinic and they sent her home with a couple doses of pain meds. Tink did fine and acted completely normal afterwards. |

We made the mistake of giving him his rabies vaccine at the same time of his other vaccines. We will never do that again. He kept crying out...it was horrible. He wouldn't let the vet touch him. We stayed for a while and my vet gave him some pain reliever to help. She also flagged his account to make sure we take extra care with his vaccinations from now on. My poor little sensitive guy. I have a really great vet. I feel so fortunate to have found her.

They go almost everywhere with me and we've even started taking them on trips with us. I'll feel so much more at ease after they have the vaccine. But, I'm still pretty nervous about the vaccine itself.

| No advise but I wanted to say I hope all goes well. Callie first got the shot when she was a puppy and has been ok with it and my moms rescue Sammy got it last year for the first time and had no problems with it.

| It sounds like you have a wonderful vet Bitsy!! My vet also recommends the lepto and to do it seperate from the other vaccines. He also pre-medicates them before the shot. Jada and Bogie both had it last year with no isssues at all other than being a little drowsy that day. We have had some of our livestock in the past get the lepto and it is just something I don't feel like I should take a chance with. We even vaccinate our cattle for it too.
