| Prissy is calming down finally. She is calmer but jumping on all the furniture in the family room. She is part monkey I think. I thought this family room was puppy proof but it seems that she can find someway to scare us,,she will even climb onto the end tables. I am teaching her off but she is not liking that very much. She is 20 weeks old today and I was wondering do you have a hard time keeping your babies off the tables? I am so scared that she will get hurt and I hate her jumping. She has to have her free time and I am with her when she is not in her playpen but still worry that she will get hurt. Is there anything more that I can do? Should I have got an xpen? Not sure that would help now.

YT 1000 Club Member | I would just keep reinforcing the "no". You could even get an xpen so you can make sure she won't hurt herself. Keep a very close eye on her especially on the furniture!

| lol I've never had one that jumped on the tables, but mine have always been jumpers! I'm glad she's learning to stay off the tables. That would be a sure way to get something broken, I would think. They are smart and learn quickly.

| When Chloe was little I used to attach her to my waist via a leash. It was a great way of not only keeping her safe but also very good for house breaking.

| I have had yorkies for 40 years and Ayla is my 1st jumper. I was in the kitchen this evening and looked thru to the tabble and to my horror she was on my kitchen table. I gave her a firm no. She has jumped on chairs. She bypasses doggie stairs except for my bed. Thankfully she is very calm tonight. I plan on enrolling her in obedience classes and hopefully we can be a team and do AKC Obedience trials and eventually agility. If I did not know better I would think that I had an Italian Greyhound instead. She is 8 months old and I just got her. |

| LOL, well luckily the tables got old or she stated listening to me saying no many, many times..she moved on to her toys last night. I am thinking about tethering her to me so she can start going to the door when she needs to go out. I am still carrying her to the door since it is farther away from the family room.

| I acquired all my pups when they were older, 2-5 years old. It only took about 1-2 weeks to break them out of jumping up on the furniture. I would watch them, and then pick them up and put them on the chair or sofa whenever they wanted up, and then watch them for when they wanted down, and help them to get down. Usually once a day we go in the bedroom, and I put everyone up on the bed for playtime for about 30 minutes, then we all get off the bed one at a time. Sometimes one or two like to have a nap on the bed, but they will wait and bark for me to come get them when they wake up. I don't have a problem with dogs jumping, it's the overextending that can cause injury. The furniture and bed is just too high, even for my bigger pups, and jumping down is just as dangerous.

| I probably wasn't very clear about the tables. she was jumping onto the chairs and then getting on the tables. I do need to reinforce her not jumping on and off the furniture since I know it is bad for them... I can just imagine how I am going to keep her calm after her spaying..OMG, this will be a trick for sure.

Harry's a 'big boy' (16lbs) but he was even big as a puppy. I can remember setting our dining room table for dinner one evening, only to go in there with the food - and he was sitting perched on one of the chairs with his paws on the table (near the knife + fork) as if he was waiting to carve!!!! I clapped my hands and said 'no' in quite a sharp voice (how dangerous might that have been....?!) I think he realised my tone and I must admit he's never done it since...thank goodness! | They can be quite the climbers can't they? Gracie used to steal things that people left on the end tables but she didn't get the table it' self. My problem has been that she saw the cat sleep on the back of the rocker recliner and decided it would be a good observation point for her. Being consistent is the best training method. Continue to take her off the tables and give her a stern, "No" when you do it. She is young but she will learn if you continue to train her properly. |

| I have been stressing no on the jumping on the furniture, I wouldn't want her to fall off. A dear friend came home one day to find her baby girl with a broken neck where she had fallen off the back of the sofa.. That is one of my biggest fears, so I am not allowing her on the furniture unless one of us have her with us. I hope to have as much knowledge as you all do when it comes to training and such. I am learning and it is a slow process. LOL
