| Using people conditioners? Hi all, I know to use shampoo for dogs, but is it ok to use your own conditioners? I haven't used any conditioner during bath yet and was going to just try my Redken hoping he wouldn't get greasy fast. I've been using my own salon bought Kenra leave in spray for daily brushing because I have a huge container of it. His hair is very puffy and wavy at 4mnths old. Is this considered cottony...def not silky as of now. Thanx I tried searching forums first. |

| Good morning! Now, people will probably shout at me....but occasionally I use Pantene conditioner on Harry I normally use a Groomers doggy conditioner, but sometimes, just sometimes I have to give in to that wonderful smell (and it seems to work beautifully on him!). Good luck! Sally + Harry x |

| Good question, many people said no don't use it, other people again said do use it. I for one do not use it purely because the shampoo that I use keep the hair soft and managable |

| I've read both for and against using people products. I bought Tigi Pet Head products for Bubba, the Dirty Talk shampoo and Furtastic Creme Rinse. Both work well. I have also diluted my conditioner (bumble & bumble), 1/2 tsp : 2 cups water, pour it on, wait two minutes (massage his legs and feet while we wait ),then rinse clean and that works great too. I also made a conditioning spray for Bubba using some of my Frederic Fekkai Glossing Creme, I use this for daily brushing when his hair is dry. I always spot test on his belly and wait a day to make sure he doesn't have a reaction to anything, even dog designated products. Hopefully some "pretty silky coat" pros will chime in with their advice and tips. I read on another thread someone mentioned coconut oil, I'll be picking some of that up tomorrow. |

| I use Minksheen shampoo and just a touch of people conditioner down their back after the first rinse. Ziva has a silky wavy coat and Abby is still puppy but super straight. When our heat(electric) went on last month I rubbed a little biosilk (hair serum) on them to cut the static. They were shiny but got dirty faster. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I've read you're not supposed to use human hair products on yorkies because of the different ph's between the two. The ph may be different but I've yet to see any scientific study showing human hair products will damage a yorkie coat. In some of the older yorkie books I've read, you would be shocked at what they used for coat care! If your product is working, not damaging the coat or stinging their eyes, then I would say....use it

Yes, into the hair only - and then rinse and rinse of course. It certainly works for him (occasionally!! ) Sally + Harry x | |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | From my understanding, you don't want to use a human shampoo the pH is too different and after a time can leave a Yorkies hair looking friend, but it's okay to use a human conditioner. At 16 weeks, you are still seeing the puppy coat, closer to a year you should see the adult coat. I think the main difference between the cotton coat and silky is the cotton coat tangles and mats much more easily, but all puppies seem to tangle and mat, especially when wearing clothing.

| Thats what I use on Jewels too. The pantene however makes Chachis hair greasy looking so I use Biogroom dog conditioner on him. So you are just going to have to try it and see if it works on your dog since all coats are different

| I've used baby products on Princess before & they seemed to irritate her, plus the smell didn't last. Now she uses Yorkie Splash & Shine & feels & smells good for a week. What I'd like to know is can I use the YS&S spray on my own hair.

| I use Minksheen on Riot and I'll rub a tiny bit of coconut oil on my hands and run them down his back and legs as I'm rinsing him off. The two together smell really good and it makes him a little bit softer. I leave it off his head though as it makes it look greasy. I have used a few dabs of my people conditioners in the past though and it doesn't seem to hurt him but it did make him smell like strawberries lol, not very manly!
