| Good for you Rainey. BJ was 7 weeks when I got her. Yes she is good on the pee pad, sometimes she hits the edge but she tries. She eats kibble and wet dog food too. Very playful but sleeps with me right against my side. Good Luck keep us posted. |

| I'm glad there are other Yorkie owners that have brought their puppies home at the same age I brought Maiya home. I was so worried about bringing Maiya home because she was only 6 weeks and 5 days old when the breeder told us to go and pick her up. But she adjusted so well! I worried for nothing really. LOL. She just made 10 weeks yesterday! She's growing like a weed. |

| Congrats on your new addition!! You have been very lucky and I will pray that luck continues. I think Lovetodream88 has given you great advice that you may have took wrong. She was looking out for the best interest in your puppy. There are lots of reason to wait till 12 weeks to bring a puppy home. The first being Hypoglucemia. As someone whom has to deal with Hypoglucemia, I can tell you it is very scary. I have left the house feeling fine and get 10 minutes down the road and the Hypo hits me. I can't imagine how a little puppy feels dealing with Hypoglucemia. When you wait until the puppy is 12 weeks old, it has constant care from it's mother and the chance of Hypoglucemia decreases after 12 weeks of age. Behavior is another reason to wait to bring home a puppy. A puppy will learn bite inhibition from it's mother and it's siblings. When you take the puppy away at 6 weeks of age, the puppy hasn't learned this. When you watch a litter of puppies play you will see that sometimes one of the puppies is to rough. The rough puppy bites a sibling to hard. The sibling yells out and walks away from the rough puppy. The rough puppy has now learned "Hey if I am too rough, playtime stops and I don't want that". you now have to be the puppy's sibling and teach the puppy this. Think about it like a college education. Would you want a doctor working on you that only had half his education? They also start to learn socialization from the mother and their siblings. Another reason to wait is their immune system. The immune system isn't fully devloped until 6 months of age. They can get sick really quick if you aren't careful. Alot of people think if they vaccinate at 6, 8, etc. weeks old the puppy is covered but not so. Read this Taking The Risk Out Of Puppy Shots | Dogs Naturally Magazine The reason to wait to bring your puppy home go on and on. Again, congrats on your new addition. |

I didn't take her advice wrong at all. I know that it's not recommended to bring a puppy home before 10-12 weeks, so I didn't really need to be reminded about that. I had already stated what the situation was and that the person I bought the puppy from wasn't really a breeder and that this litter was an accident. But because I kinda had no choice, all I wanted to know was if it was possible for things (mostly health wise) to be ok. And according to people who have brought their puppies home before 10-12 weeks, it is POSSIBLE for things to be ok. I knew about hypoglycemia before we brought her home. I did lots and lots of research about it. I wasn't really worried about any behavioral issues, I was mostly concerned about HEALTH issues that would result in taking a puppy home at that age. I appreciate all the advice I get, but I felt like a lot of the people that posted on this thread did not understand what my question was. I really didn't ask about reputable breeders, or being AKC registered, or anything like that. I felt like I was being "looked down upon" because I was bringing the puppy home at 7 weeks. But like I said in my first post, I kinda had no choice.

| I hope you don't feel like you are being looked down upon because I'm sure that is no one's intention. I am happy that you came here looking for advice. However, the breeder of this puppy is being looked down upon - as she should be. She is ultimately responsible for any puppy she allows her dogs to have. |

| You know, my baby Daisy was 12 weeks old at 1.5 lbs. She is now 2.5 years at around 5.5 lbs. I couldn't even imagine taking her home at 8 weeks...She was so small she sat in my palm....I put a little bell around her just so I wouldn't step on her. I would definately bring your sister (vet) with you when and if you decide to pick up earlier than expected. I would also ask her she had her shots and if she allows you to return if there is something seriously wrong with baby...That also is hard, because once you hold your baby, you never want to give it back.... You are rite about how fragile and dainty they are. They have to be old enough to understand about going weewee and being away from mommy. |

I don't see where in that statement you are being attacked or looked down upon, The breeder is being looked down upon. This is a Yorkie forum and when members hear of things such as this happening to Yorkies they are going to have a reaction to the person causing the problem. The breeder has caused the problem and any one of those three puppies could pay the price for that. We are upset with the breeder. The anger towards the breeder is being discussed in the thread that talked about the breeder. Stick around, there are alot of great people here to learn from. Take this as a lesson learned. If you decide to add another Yorkie later on down the road now you and your boyfriend know what to look for in a breeder and why. That isn't being looked down upon at all.

| I'm very impressed with you on taking home a younger baby and that the widdle baby butt is growing like a weed. You must be a very patient loving mommy that has taken up where the other mommy left off.... I know you have giving strength to other mommy's who are a little concerned about taking one home early.....I would have done the same thing......Because.....We care more about the well being of the baby then the one giving it away!!! YAY Congrats on being such a good mommy!!!! |

| Rainey I am glad it worked out and it sounds like your puppy is doing well. I understand exactly how you feel, you came here looking for advice on how to care for a 7-8 week old puppy because you had no other choice. Some members gave you that help, others decided to overlook that your situation could not be avoided and instead decided to post or should I say preach on how you should leave the dog there or about how bad the breeder was, LOL like you were not already aware of that. I think what happens is some members are either pressed for time, or so anxious to make their own post that they overlook a lot of what was written before them. I just noticed someone was still giving you advice on what to do when you picked up the puppy, I guess they missed how it's been several weeks since you have had her home. You are new here and so am I, but I can tell that there are a LOT of great people here with tons of valuable information. So do what I have started to do, just pass over and ignore those preachy posts, or those where you can tell the member did not read the whole thread, don't waste your time typing responses because if you do it will just suck the life out of you and you will be to upset to see all the good stuff on this site. | She is beautiful, and looks very healthy! I wanted another just looking at yours.... Don't worry if she is not over 2 lbs. Being such a small widdle baby, weight comes on very slowly.....by ounces....My baby was only 1.5 ibs at 12 weeks...... I am always here for you if you ever have a question..... YAY Never get discouraged about potty training...Yorkies can sometimes be stubborn...Even tho my widdle one "rings the bell on the door before going out to potty, when she was younger she had her times when I thought she was trained...Then all of a sudden she just peed without even wanting to go outside..She I believe was testing me....Remember to always have a kind, calm spirit when dealing with accidents on the floor.....they will happen. |
