| Hi! Welcome! It is always an interesting decision, isn't it? There is another 'clipping top knot' thread (as in trimming)...have you had a chance to check it out? Actually, there are at least 2 of them which discuss the same sorts of things. You, of course, could trim, clip, or band the top knot. You can use a band to push the top knot back a little over the head, or pull out some hair from the band on the front to create a poof and push the hair back. You could clip the hair short and not worry about a top knot at all. I would not leave anything in my babies' hair that could harm them...if they ate it...when I am not with them. I would not expect a tiny non-latex band to be harmful like a metal clip would be, so mine will only have metal clips when they are basically in my arms where I can watch them closely. Have you thought about what you want your baby to look like? The decision is really yours, after all. Your decision will influence greatly what you use in your baby's hair. Take care!

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Well I have four Yorkies and I always just keep their bangs cut. But when we got Ruby I swore I would keep her hair long and have her wear a top knott. That was until she kept putting them out. I used a verity of different thinks to try to keep it in. Most she was able to get out. So, I tightened them (mini ponytail holders) and that was a disaster. She pulled 80% of her hair out. So, no more top knott for now. I had to cut it to give it fresh start and grow out even.

| Well, if you can tolerate the growing out period for a top knot they a fun and attractive thing to have. It does take a lot of diligence to keep it looking nice. If you want a top knot I would suggest using the non-latex grooming bands. I use the small ones because you don't have to twist them around so many times. You have to do it every day even when they are young. I would start doing it now even though his hair isn't long enough for a true top knot. They have to know it is an everyday thing that is going to happen just like grooming the rest of the body. If you don't have the time or inclination to do the top knot thing then I think trimming is the logical thing to do. It keeps the hair out of their lovely eyes. Clips slide out of the hair if you don't put a grooming band in first. They just don't stay and it is dangerous to use a clip or bow if your not right there with your pet. There are some good instructions on top knot placement available at : Placing Bows - Photos : Dog Bows, Quality Dog Bows - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu - by BowBiz There is also a video and other info available. Never leave a grooming band in over night. It will become all tangled and break the hair. |

| Think I will go for trimming as he hates anything but his fur touching him. |

| Tessa & Daisy have both rubber and elastic bands. I prefer to go with the elastics but it does pull on their topknots and needs frequent readjustments. The clips work well too but I do need to keep an eye on them for the fear of ingestion, mostly a safety hazard. |

| We use tiny scrunchies for daily use, and tiny rubber bands when I'm not feeling lazy. There are some Yorkies who do well with clips, but I don't trust my guys with them. They might try chewing and swallowing them.

| I hated the bows with elastics built in!!! We used tint\y bands for ponies then clip bows in as desired!! I have to be very careful though, because My little Mack Brown loves to chew on the others ponies...and RIP them out, thus breaking off their hair!! lol!! good luck!!!
