| I need more helppp! I just got Fred tonight! I confined Fred to a designated area and put his peepee pad on one side and his bed on the other side, with his water and dry food dish a little to the right of it. It seems like he's whimpering when I pay attention to him but when I pretend he's not there, he'll stop! I don't know if I should play with him more or not? I played with him for 1 1/2 hours and then he napped for about 20 minutes. Then he awoke and started trying to escape his little confined area by headbutting the corner! I don't want to let him have free roam of my room yet because this is the first night and I don't want to spoil him to the point where he's always with me in my arms and I can never put him down! How long will he sleep for? How long did your yorkie sleep for the first night home? I can tell he's not having any seperation-from-his-litter-and-mom issues because my breeder prepared him by taking him away from his mother and litter a week and a 1/2 before I picked him up so when he left today, he hadn't seen them in 1 1/2 weeks. He's warming up to me and fell asleep in my arms on the way home and when I make a kissing noise he'll lick my cheek! Also, when I saw him making a circle around my computer chair, I put him on his pad but he didn't pee on it. I played with him some more and then I looked away and when I looked back, he was pooping on his pad! I was shocked. Maybe it was coincidence? He's been biting my finger when he plays as well. Are these all good signs? What should I do when he whimpers in the middle of the night, assuming that he will? |

| congrats on youre new baby......... my advice would be to ignore him if he cries, hes a baby so he will, but he needs to learn that you are boss..... are you crate training????.....lol....... headbuting is normal, my toby head buts my fiance when he wont pay attention to him .... just give him time to warm up to his new place.... |

| When I got Paris she did the same thing. I put a shirt in her play pen, but before I put her to bed a played and played with her. She was so tired she went to bed. Paris slept the whole night but she woke me up at 6am so play again. I know it is hard but I just say nite nite. If you dont do it now he will always test you. But then again i am a rather new mommy, i have only had paris a month or so..

| Natalie, How did the night go......I know you were awake a dozen times wondering "what to do"!!!!! Lil Bit cried alot the first night...I finally got up @ 2:30am and held her (in the dark) just to calm her (and me!!). The second night she 'yelled' 3 or 4 times for a while but I did not get her. By the 3rd night she stayed quiet except for a time or 2. After that she has pretty much slept all night. She still 'yells' when she hears someone up going to BR or such but quiets when I get back in bed. (she is in a separate room...in a puppy pen with food & water and pee-pads.....). Hope Fred had a good night and you all have a big day of playing!!! and Loving!!!....hope the weather is nice where you are....Lil Bit loved to go outside and "run" in the grass....(my fenced yard). |

| This is funny to read for me. Stewie slept the whole night outside of my room in the hallway in his bed the first two nights without so much as a whimper. After that he got progressively worse until I gave in and let him sleep with me. Such a litttle pain!

| Dolce did the same thing the first few nights. I had her in a crate in my room and whenever I would even move in bed she would start crying. I was getting no sleep so i had to do something. I finally went out and bought a play pen a week after i had her. I put her in that in another room with a nite lite on and the door closed and I would tell her "ok Dolce, bedtime"...the first few nights she would cry for about 5-10 min, but as she got used to it and knew that this was "her bed", she warmed up to it and now sleeps the whole night without so much as a peep. It just takes them time to get used to their new surroundings and their new mommy and daddy's. Be consistent with her and she will realize that when u say "nite nite" it is time for her to be quiet and go to sleep.

| I hope all went well for you. Spirit is always very quite when she is scared so the first few nights were quite. She has been with us for 8 months and she wakes up with the sun everyday. So now so do I. I'm sure he will adjust to your life style in a week or 2. Good luck with him.

| I am soo shocked! Lights out was at midnight last night after I played with him some more and then I put him in his pen. He just stood up and looked at me for a little bit and then crawled in a little ball and slept all night long! I woke up at 8:30 this afternoon refreshed because he didn't not whimper or anything! When I woke up, he was laying there with his head on his paws looking up at me! Even when I got up, he still laid there quietly. Then when I looked over to his pee pee pad (which was about 2 feet away from him), he peed on the peepee pad! I'm so proud of him. As I speak, he's laying on my lap gnawing at my pullstring on my sweatpants! hahah Is it normal though.. he's biting everything, especially my ring and bracelet! I took pictures, I'll try to post them soon! |

| Hi, the first night can be hard on you, more than the pup I think. The puppy will be fine, try not to give in. He needs his own place and soon he wiil be fine with it all. Sweetie was good the first few nights, some time ,now, she will cry a bit and then go right to sleep. Sweetie is six month, I got her at 11wks. You can also cart train( good thing to do), sleep him in it at night, in your bedroom so he will know that you are there and that it is ok, bed time. Good luck!and have fun!
