Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Airline Approved Carriers? Hey guys! Could you share with me what carrier you use for air travel? We have decided to fly home to Alabama in March for a week and I need to go ahead and be thinking about what I'll need for Katie Scarlett's first plane ride. Thanks guys!!! Have a great day!

| We use the Delta Medium Sherpa carrier. It is light weight and washable. We have only used it for road trips so far but ours like to nap in theirs even when we aren't traveling. We will see how they do on the plane next week. After reading many reviews I went with this one and so far we like it. The other bonus is that it comes with the guaranteed on board program where you can input your flight details and with certain carriers Sherpa will issue a certificate stating that it meets all requirements. You show this to the agent when checking in for your flight and you *should not* have any problems bringing it on board. If it is denied for any reason Sherpa does give you a refund for the price of the carrier I believe. They run about $45 on amazon.com. |

| when sending larger dogs that get checked like baggage you need a hard surface airline approved kennel, but from what I have seen they no longer as for something airline approved to take the dog on board with you. My advise is don't get the smallest carrier, just one that is no larger than the size a carry on can be, and one that has a lot of roll up sides or mesh openings for breathing and so they can see out. Also get one that has good latch, that allows for no openings betwee the zipper or latch. Lola has been able to push her nose out the crack where the zipper ends and the end flap begins. Even though the latch is on and that stays shuts the zipper will opens and she pushes out of it. Also make sure it has a small detachable strap on the inside, about 10 or so inches, this way you can clip them in, but they can also move around in the carrier. |

| I use the Sherpa bag. It is well ventilated and the medium one gives Bella lots of room to move around. She weighs 6 pounds. I have travelled with my dogs for the last 15 years and have always used the Sherpa bag. It may not be as stylish as some of the others but I know they are comfortable in it and that is all tha's important to me. |

| Buster loves his Pet Flys carrier and it is his den at home and his about town carrier as well. Here is a pretty one Welcome To Pet Fly's - Trendy, Edgy, Airline approved pet carriers for traveling in style, comfort and safety on board a plane, train, automobile or just hanging out with you. But the last time I was worried he might not be getting enough air when under the airline seat so I am going to try the Snoozer one which is more open. Roll Around Snoozer Dog Carrier - Roll Around Travel Pet Carrier - Pet Carriers & Purses It is good because it rolls and converts into a backpack. Right know I keep it stocked with supplies as his earthquake kit because I want something I can grab and go in an emergency.

| Remember to check what the specific airline under seat measurements are as they vary. You can turn some carriers on their side to fit but make sure there is good air flow. Also some states require a health certificate from your Vet dated no more 7-10 days before travel and you must notify the airline that you are traveling with a pet as they only allow so many pets to travel in the cabin per flight. You must check in at the counter to pay their fee and to get their boarding tags attached to your carrier.

| I have the Sherpa carrier too and took it onboard with my previous yorkie. I actually think it couldn't fit under the seat...just a tad too tall...so it stayed on my lap or where my feet were. I now have the Sherpa seatbelted in my backseat of my vehicle and that's where my puppy goes during rides. Last edited by Charlie_Boy2011; 01-30-2012 at 04:20 PM. |
