Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Heartguard Help Hey guys! Well today is Katie Scarlett's Heartguard day. I give her the Heartguard chewable on this day once a month. Usually she goes crazy over it. She either gobbles it right up or plays chase with it for a while nibbling off a bit at a time until it is gone. Well this morning, I gave her the chewable right after our morning grooming as I always do and she did not want anything to do with it. I tried to hold it in my hand, I put it near her food, I tried to 'play' with it with her to get her interested in it...nothing. So I did a little research and found where some had good luck breaking up the chewable and mixing it with a teeny bit of peanut butter. Katie Scarlett LOVES her Kong Peanut Butter in her Kong toy, so I tried that. Well she would put a little bite in her mouth, swirl off all the peanut butter, and put the remaining Heartguard back on the plate???!!!! What do I do? How can I get her to take her Heartguard? Should I call the vet and ask about switching to a pill or something? IDK what is up and whey she doesn't like them anymore. Thanks for any help!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I wonder if she has an upset tummy? Does she seem interested in other food. My foster loves the chewable so much, I switched Joey over to them. It's such a pleasure giving them something they like. I think you have a 5-10 window to give the heartworm meds. My sure fire way of getting Joey to take a pill involves mozzarella cheese and forming it around the medicine. But if they are having a tummy ache or other problem no food can tempt them. I hope they don't stop like them suddenly. They were expensive!

| Nancy, How much were the chews? We just got the Heartgard plus and for a box of 6 it was about $24. Hoping Uni will like them. Have to wait for the ok from the heartworm test first. Can you break them up and smoosh them into PB for Katie?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Can't remember, but they were quite a bit more than the regular, I'm thinking about getting them online, but then I have such a great relationship with the vet and I can call him for lots of questions. You do have to break them up, it's kind of a big piece for a Yorkie, but they both acted like it was the best treat ever!

| My vet was the one to recommend Drs Foster and Smith to me. We are in a rural area and he says he can't compete price wise and would rather have his patients be able to save money. I can get a year supply from Drs Foster and Smith for both Jada and Bogie for what I give for a 6 months that I split between them at the vets. I like the fact that they won't dispense it to you without calling your vet first.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Thanks guys!!! I finally got her to finish her Heartguard meddie. I did smoosh it up in some peanut butter. That got about half of it in. Then she got wise and started licking all the peanut butter and leaving the med. Little bugger! So then I gave her the rest with her itty bitty pieces of chopped up turkey weenies that we give for treats during our training session. I will see next month if she will do better, if not, I'll call the vet. Gotta have those meddies!
