| Is Your Yorkie Good with Cats? Jackson is okay with cats.... so long as they don't run, LOL. He's so weird. He'd never hurt a cat. But he's VERY interested in them; a little too interested most of the time. Like, we can't just go into someones house who has a cat and just let him loose because if he sees that cat, and then cat runs, he chases it. But my dad has two cats and he can be chilling upstairs and not really care that much about them. We have a gate at the top of the stairs and dogs mainly stay down and cats up. However my bedroom is upstairs so often he will be up there and not really seemingly caring about the cats- unless the other dogs begin barking at them. If it's a cat that shows equal interested in him, and will allow Jackson to sniff it, etc, he's fine. But yeah it's the running thing that causes his chase instinct to come out. I think if I got a kitten and brought it home, he'd become friends with the cat. So I guess the answer is: "it's complicated". Not sure I'd ever willingly choose to live with cats and Jackson together, lol.

| Kaji is ok with cats. Cats aren't ok with Kaji. Kaji sees a cat, skunk, possum, and his instinct is to run up to them, tail wagging, and do the play bow. I've never let him go up to a wild animal before, but he did do that to a neighbor's cat years ago. He was so happy to see the kitty. He did the playbow, tail was wagging so fast it was a blur, and he was bouncing around trying to get the kitty to play. Kaji finally realized the cat wasn't moving. He slowly went up to the kitty as if to say, "hey, are you ok?" That's when the cat struck him in the face with his claws out! The cat got a fist full of hair, and Kaji was fine. He just lost a teeny bit of hair that day.

| Moses loves his feline brother, Zeus! However, Zeus can take or leave Moses! Moses is one year old...Zeus is 15! So you can imagine the energy gap between the two! What's really cute is when Moses is sleeping, Zeus will sneak over and give Moses a nice lick (kiss) on the head! Sooooo adorable!

| Well I have 5 cats so they get along with them but they wont hesitate to let them know whos boss every now and then. Its funny its like Chachi is the big boss of yorkies and then theres little Jewels and shes the boss of the cats and will let them know when they have stepped over the line. The cats dont mind them though at all. All of mine were kittens here with them though and I do believe that makes a difference.

| I'm pretty sure my boys think cats are in the same category as any other fuzzy creature outdoors that they should attack. Our neighbors have a 22 pound cat that thinks he is a dog. He chases us on our walks. I tried introducing Max. The cat gave him stink-eye, and Max started jumping around trying to act intimidating.

| Gracie has grown up with cats. I had a litter of kittens I was fostering when I first got Gracie. At first she would chase the cats if she had the chance. I had to teach her that it was not allowed to bully them. The more playful cat likes to wrestle with Gracie and they will chase each other around now and then. For the most part though she feels she is boss of all cats and will put them in their place if she feels they have invaded her space or gotten too close to her favorite toy. Last winter though I noticed I would find her sleeping on top of one of the cats quite often. She found they were quite useful for draining body heat from when my lap was not available. I have several pictures of her either wrapped around or on top of the cats while taking a nap. |

| The only cat ZoE has seen is a neighborhood cat that roams outside. It has a big bush tail....judging by her reaction, ZoE thinks it's just a big squirrel!

| Kiko LOVES cats, and not in a good way, more of a I'd like to grab you and shake you like a stuffed toy way. The only time she has ever ran out the front door was to chase after a stray cat. We have a lot of stray cats here and she gets worked up every time she sees one. She also knows where they like to hang out in these little play houses on the play ground by our house and has to check for them every time we walk past. |

| Oz is mainly curious around cats. My fiance's parents have a really fluffy orange Persian (Harley). When we take Oz over there he keeps trying to get a good sniff of Harley, but Harley snorts and hisses at him, so he keeps his distance pretty good! I don't think Oz would ever chase a cat because he has a very submissive nature.

| My Cricket LOVED cats. I had one when she was a puppy. (It passed at 16.) She would try to play w them, boss them at times. These two are curious but don't seem too interested.

| Cody loves his two feline sisters and wants to play with them and generally be their best friend. My cats are kind of hilarious though. In an unwitting turn of events, the cats have established a pack order among things with tails and little Cody is at the bottom of the pile. And he totally knows it. Nutmeg, my oldest at about 3 and a half, is clearly in charge. From day one she whacked Cody a couple times (no claws) and he listens to her. He wants to play with her. He does the play bow and dances around her and barks even, but if she so much as raises a paw at him, they're all done. Sometimes she'll let him have it and play for a couple minutes, but when she's done she's done. Madeline is my middle child at just over a year old. She and Cody play more, but she has no more patience than Nutmeg. When she's done she's done. Same notification system too.... when it's over she just bops him and he gives up. Although sometimes she thinks a good game is to sit in one place while Cody has the zoomies and just swat at him as he races by. He doesn't seem to care and no claws are involved so it's all good. So yeah, Cody just wants to play and be friends. The cats are lukewarm on the issue. The house rule is that everything's fair game until someone cries. So far, that's never happened so we're set. |

| Jersey absolutely loves cats. He wants to play with all of them, even if they don't want to! His one pal, Dusty, who is twice Jersey's size, loves to play with him too. Here is a pic of them snuggling together. Last edited by gryhndnut; 01-18-2012 at 06:07 AM. |

| Belle has 6 feline siblings. She loves to play with my daughter's 2 young male cats, they are only about two months older than she is and the three of them play chase through the house and wrestle and generally have a great time together. I have two female cats who are over ten years old and they don't want anything to do with her or my shih tzu, and Belle and Oliver live for the moments that they can chase the girls. ( I try my best to discourage that) I also have a 25 lb male cat who could easily show Belle who's boss, but he tries his best to avoid her. She chases him off the bed almost every night. . The sixth cat is a ragdoll found as a stray this fall and she hasnt met him yet, as he won't come upstairs. In my experience, the younger a cat is when you introduce it to your Yorkie, the more likely that they'll be friends.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | With us I think it depends on the cat. Every single cat we have met at PetSmart, PetCo, or at the park Katie Scarlett has absolutely loved! They interact with one another and then love on each other. I was very impressed with how good she is. But then my MIL has a new cat named Izzy Boo and KS hates that cat! I think it's because the cat is kinda mean. She hissed at KS from the moment she saw her. KS barked at her one time and the cat ran off. Now every time we are at my MIL's the cat goes into her 'room' so there is no confrontation. LOL
