| AKC Yorkie from Petstore? Hello YT, I recently bought my pet Yorkie, which I named Yogi, from a PetLand, even before knowing about YT and the concerns. He is 10 weeks, has full AKC papers with breeders paperwork and actual chip in him, if he is ever lost, with all shots up to date and warranty for the next year for his vaccinations. All sounds good and he is great and the crate training is going great, still working on our potty thing. Does this still sound official or a puppymill kind of thing. How do I do Pics to the actual Forum page? Instead of a Thumbnail? Or Is this Thumbnail Ok. |

| I'm sorry to tell you but Petland puppies do come from puppy mills or bad breeders. I too have a couple of pet store dogs. Sometimes we just don't know until we've already made our purchase. Good luck with your little man, he's a cutie!

| All dogs deserve a home. However, many times the price tag with dogs don't just stop with the initial purchase. Like 107Barney said, all pups from pet stores are from puppymills/backyard breeders/ or bad breeders. No reputible breeder would dare risk hir or her lines by selling their pups to a pet store. Be prepare for possible health problems and or behavioral problems. And if you don't get any, then you lucked out. With that being said, Yogi is adorable. And his cute little face looks like Yogi bear!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If your concerned about getting a purebred, having the AKC tag is very helpful, they are known for being very strict with record keeping. If your concern is how the dogs are treated in the breeding facilities, a label with AKC means a little more than other labels, because these other labels were made by the commercial breeders, but there are still many "puppy mills" that still have the AKC label. How dogs are treated in kennels has more to do with individual state law. Not all commercial breeders treat the dogs inhumanely, but it's still best to see for yourself how the dogs are being raised. I saw some undercover videos interviewing Petland breeders and it was so sad. If they felt like USDA inspectors gave them a hard time and didn’t want to improve kennel conditions, they would just threaten to shoot the dogs so that USDA inspectors would back off. For those interested CAPPS has made some great videos about Petland and the Hunte Corp: View Investigation Report

| Oh he does look like a little stuff animal. He is so cute. Often times we don't know about our pets before buying them. I agree a petstore puppy deserves just as much love. We will pray that he is healthy and remains that way. |

| I had a friend that bought a sihtzu at a pet store. I fell in love with the puppy and contacted the same breeder later and bought a puppy. The breeder met me at a DQ with my puppy. Don't ever do this! I learned my lesson in a very hard way! Later my Grandkids wanted one so I contacted the breeder again. This time she let me come to her home. I was amazed at her puppy mill! She had the dogs all out in a old very run down shed. She tried to sell us a puppy with a deformed foot saying it would be fine. I spent 10 yrs out of the 13 yrs going from vet to vet with my dog. She had everything wrong with her after she turned 3 yrs. I could write a book on her and all that was wrong with her! I put her down a year and a half ago. Hardest thing I have ever had to make a decision on! We saw so many vets and specialist. I would never take a chance from a pet store. Even my friend's dog developed problems. I hope you get lucky and the puppy is healthy. |
