| steeling lava rocks from fireplace My 6 month old little yorkie had been steeling the rocks from the fireplace. He runs when i try to get them from him. The only way i can catch him is to go to the freezer and get him a green bean. I know that this is not the right thing to do but i can't catch him no other way and i am afraid he will eat it. I need advice on how to get it without giving him a treat. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | When he has something in his mouth that you don't want him to have, use the words "Drop it' and give him a treat, give him a treat every single time he drops it. This is such an important command and can save his life. Probably you should put up a barrier so he can't get the rocks, and I hope he never tries to get them when they are hot. I would practice this with various things you have around the house. One time when shaking my can of pennies to reduce barking, the lid came off and pennies flew everywhere. Joey brought one over to me and dropped it and I gave him a treat. I was so relieved he had learned to do this, because I know he would have swallowed the pennies otherwise. Anyway, he was finding and picking up pennies for months, even though I thought I found them all, he could get places I couldn't.

| The first thing you should do is put a screen there, so he can't pick them up.

| Thanks, I have put up something in front of it now because i got tired of chasing him. And he is fast. lol I will start that right away. He gets the kids socks, clothes etc. They get so mad at him. I thought he would think we was rewarding him for doing things he wasn't suppose to do. But it makes since that he will learn to drop it if we do that every time he has something he don't need. |

| Abby (6 1/2mo) is bringing in rocks from outside everytime the dogs go out- she seems to like the coolness on her sore gums. Ziva is starting to make a game of it since Abby got treats for handing them over, but she is getting a lot of drop-it practice anyway. |
