| Dandi Dinmont Terrier....Part of the Yorkie ingredients The Yorkie is a man-made breed believed to be a combination of the Clydesdale Terrier (now said to be extinct), the Skye Terrier, the Leeds Terrier, Maltese, Black & Tan Manchester, and the Dandi Dinmont Terrier. The Dandi Dinmont comes in "Pepper" or "Mustard" color. I just wanted to say that the mustard color on the Dandi Dinmont's back is exactly the coloring of my red/gold Yorkie pups. I'll attach a picture shortly. I just thought this was interesting. They were much larger originally and then the smaller ones were bred to get the size down. I just thought someone may want to check out some of these breeds to see their individual markings and such. I just read all this online a couple of days ago. |

| It doesn't seem anyone is real interested in this thread. I just thought it was neat. It was hard to find a picture of the "Mustard" Dandie Dinmont, but here is one.... |

| I was not aware that the Dandie's are one of the ingredients in our Yorkies. I think they are about as cute as they come - we looked at them carefully before we bought our second pup, a Maltese. We like the smaller dogs and the Dandie Dinmont is much larger than Yorkies or Maltese. I thought they only came in white - interesting to see the multicolored one.

| They are nearly the color of your babies! How neat! It's like a color throwback (gene). I looked but couldn't find a dinmont that color. Thanks for the picture!. I love your babies. I think that would be a great color for Yorkies - I know, I know, - it's not "standard", but heck - our Yorkies aren't standard either! Everyone is perfect and different. They have different colors of labs, why not Yorkies? And your reds are lovely.

| I have always thought the Dinmont was a darling little dog. I have never "seen one in person," but want to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't know why people say the Yorkie is a "man-made dog." All purebreds are man-made dogs. Man has created over 100 different breeds of different shapes and sizes and abilities. I think this is one of the most wonderful things about dogs. There are so many different breeds. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Your topic is interesting. And, I really do like the picture you posted. That little guy is absolutely beautiful. Carol Jean |

| I know what you mean about the "man-made" thing. But it is a term that helps understand where a breed came from sometimes. |

| I've read in several different places (that I can't find right now) that Dandy Dintmores are the smartest dogs there are. Some other sources say sheep dogs are smarter, so I guess there's some debate. But they must both be really smart. |
