| Introducing 5 yr old yorkie to a new puppies-need suggestions please Hello everyone, I have a 5 year old male yorkie Harley who is an only child. He does not like bigger dogs just stays away from them. He does not know how to play-- think he is intimidated. We are getting a female yorkie on February 3rd from the same breeder that we got Harley from. My concern is the best way to introduce them. We have to travel to get the puppy, should we take Harley with us?? Any suggestions would be welcomed!!! |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I wouldn't take him with you. The best advice I can give you is when you bring new puppy home...introduce them in your back yard. Not inside where Harley feels the need to protect his territory. I own 7 dogs and this is the method that has been most successful. A 5 year old dog is not going to particularly like a new younger sibling and their puppy "business" either. It may take awhile for the older to tolerant the younger.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Proud Granny Hello everyone, I'm a proud granny of a 3 month old male puppy. His name is Dylan. He was given to my daughter as a Christmas gift. I'm so happy that we got him. Dylan is my world! He has filled a spot in my heart that was empty & has brought much joy to our home. All I do is shop for him. I never knew that having a dog could bring this much joy into our home. I now want another puppy so he can have someone to play with. |

| When I rescued Buddy the golden I had all 4 yorkies with me. The toughest critic was and still is mama dog Cozy is the the alpha of the dogs but knows to listen to me and my mom. I would play it by ear. I would have one crated so they could smell and see each other but not directly meet at first since your Harley s easily intimidated and I doubt the puppy will be afraid of him.
