| Male vs. Female Hi All I posted a couple of weeks ago that I would be adding a 3rd puppy to my family. He/she will be a Maltese, 16 wks old. Mason is my oldest yorkie at 3 yrs old and 5lbs. He is very quiet, laid back and nothing excites him except treats. Ivy is my female yorkie at 15 months old, 5.8 lbs. and is good at annoying Mason, because she always wants to play ( I contribute that to her age, she's still a baby) Mason will only play for a short time until he's had enough and then will walk away and go to the bedroom to get away from her. She's not allowed upstairs just yet because she's only about 95% housebroken so she knows not to follow him upstairs. Overall, they get along VERY well and haven't had any fights or have never been nippy/snappy with each other. So, with that being said, how do I know which gender would fit better with those two. TIA! |

| Boy that's a tough one. I thinks it's going to depend on the new dog's personality because you already know the other 2 dogs'. We got Mia first - she was very submissive. Then we got Max - very shy. Somewhere in between Mia decided to take her stand - HBIC (head bitch in charge). Lastly we got Moe who was already a year old - pushy and playful. Hubby and I have discussed another one - sometime in the future - but we've kind of decided it would have to be another boy. In my opinion neutered boys seem to get along better or should I say accept each other better. That's not the case for everyone - there are a lot of members who only have females and they get along great. Again, I think you'll just have judge by the pup's personality.

| I think you going to get a lot of different answers here because it depends on the pups personality and and your babies that you have already. I do think that boys tend to be more laid back but they can also be very territoral toward other males sometimes. For us if we got another puppy we would have to get another female. The reason why is because Roscoe is very territoral around other males but is easy going and sweet with any female dog. Also too though you would have to consider if Ivy would be that way towards a another female. Wow what a tuff choice!

| I've had three Maltese, one male and two females, and they were all pretty laid back, not a dominant bone in their bodies. I did have one at the same time as two Yorkies, and she was very content to let the bossy Yorkies take charge. I really think either male or female would do fine, as long as you get one with the typical, laid-back temperament.

| I think you all probably right. Personality of the pups will have to be the determining factor. I am going to see them on Saturday and will definitely be leaving with one of them. I hope I make the right decision. *Sigh* |

| We have always had female dogs. At one time we had 5. Now we have 4 (1 yellow lab, 2 yorkies, 1 maltese) and they all get along (got along) great. I think it really comes down to the personality of the dog and training.
