| Breeding I have a few questions re: breeding. My female Yorkie, Chloe was mated on Dec 3rd & again on the 5th. Both days they tied several times. What I'm unsure of us whether or not she was ovulating because she was still spotting blood & actually still is here & there. Is it true that she would have rejected the male if she weren't ready? How will I know when she is pregnant? She's been very active these past few days & actually has been humping our female Chiuaha as well as our small 6 month old Yorkie. Is it normal for her to still have a sex drive even after mating? Should I mate her one more time in the next few days? And no, I'm not a breeder, but I am a Yorkie lover as well as many of my family members who all want a puppy if Chloe does turn out to be pregnant. Thank you all in advance for your wonderful advice & suggestions. |

| Did you have her and her mate checked for any health issues? Is she a great example of the the breed as well as her mate? Are you willing to risk her life to have puppies? These are just some of the things you need to think about before breeding and if no was the answer to those questions you should take her in and have her spayed as soon as possible.

| I see your Chloe is a little over a year old. Is this her first heat cycle? Have you whelped before? Are you prepared financially if a C section is needed. If something goes wrong during the whelp and she needs emergency care, are you able to know when things are going wrong? Do you have breeding rights according to her registration? You do need to be there to assist her w the whelp. Also, if you have no whelping exp, really someone should be there w you who does. Things to be considered when getting into breeding a small toy dog.

| welcome to yorkietalk! she could just stay fertile for a longer time than most... gidget- where did you find that? Ilovemy2Yorkies- is that true? if so, breeding her is very irresponsible and she needs a mismate- she may as well be an 11yr old girl having a baby at that age... if not, can we please know her age, number of cycles and size (it is all relevant in trying to help answer) btw, you ARE a breeder; you have deliberately bred your dog, so you are now a breeder- what kind you chose to be however is entirely up to you and you alone. you say you mated them several times a day- do you own the male? were they supervised throughout? is the stud owner experienced at all if you don't own him?

| ah. OP- do your little girl a big favour and get her the mis-mate; not only is her body probably not ready for a litter, but she is mentally still a puppy herself- so how can she be expected to know how to raise a litter to be well adjusted dogs? oh, and as for her humping the chi- that is probably her asserting dominance because she has been bred... be careful it doesn't escalate to fighting; all Puppies will have to find their place in the pack, and can get very unpleasant if not properly dealt with (i.e. can end in fatalities).

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I suggest you consult your vet with your questions. It is what they are there for. And for your info: you are now a breeder - deliberatly impregnated a year old girl - A responsible person will take the time to ask questions before leaping into risking the life of their female dog. Study even.

| Ok, I am totally against non knowledgeable people breeding, these are questions you should know the answer to prior to breeding. Not trying to be mean or ugly here BUT I have a puppymill rescue and let me tell you, this poor girl went through the ringer for "the love of puppies"..Makes me sick, and you are a breeder, for whatever reason. Sorry if this post was negative, but your research should have started before you bred the dogs. Are they registered? Have they been health tested? Etc?

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I might get a bad name here but for the sake of your bitch here it goes... FIRST... put aside about $3,000.00 for a posible C-section with that said..Oviously you don't know anything about whelping, yes that comes after breeding. Your bitch can become pregnant with ONE tie,Knowledable breeders breed their bitches ONE time a day,or you will depleat the males sperm count with multiples in one day. then to make sure if male is available they mate them again two days later.I ALWAYS help my pair and hold them thru the tie, so my bitch don't go crazy on the male and hurt him. specially with maiden YOUNG bitches like yours.Never breed before second Season, but too late for YOURS.. here is some sites so you can READ and get to know more or less what to do .. 1. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders. READ and RE READ this site 2. Familiarize yourself with the Whelping process and start buying the NECESSARY supplies ( about $175.00 or more ) a). Dog Pregnancy Supplies | Puppy Newborn Care Products | Revival Animal Health 3. Find a QUIET WARM place to place the whelping box 4.Get the Whelping Box ready... NO NEWSPAPER or cardboard boxes PLEASE.. a rubbermaid container with a doorway cut out is perfect, bleach it and clean it prior to let your bitch use it, get her used to the box with time, don't wait until she starts looking on her own for a place to have her babies... 5. Good food and higene is a MOST while she is pregnant. 6. ASK Questions, THE LIFE OF YOUR GIRL IS IN YOUR HANDS... SHE CAN DIE ON THEM, SO PLEASE ASK YOUR VET ANY QUESTIONS THAT WILL COME TO YOU MIND, 7. Go to the BREEDERS section, you are a breeder whether you like the tittle or not, get familiar with lingo and procedures. 8. Good luck.. your bitch is going to need it... she is young and you are not experience.. |

| disgusted once again with the determination of some people to reproduce puppies with their dog with NO PRIOR EDUCATION ABOUT BREEDING!! Oh look it's a female in tact, let's breed her and make puppies oh what fun that will be!! (eye roll) And then a few months later we hear this: We lost mom during the whelping process, had to have an emergency C-section and it didn't go well, now I'm out $3000 bucks and only one puppy survived and I have no idea how to feed it or take care of it without mom. So pup eventually dies too and all it's siblings died in the birth canal when they got stuck and you had to rush to the ER vet in the middle of the night for that emergency C-section that was given way too late. NICE STORY ISN'T IT!?! Well i'm sick of hearing it happen. You want real advice, spay your female and save her life as well as the lives of the pups you know nothing about caring for. I hope I made a point without getting myself into too much trouble, but I do believe in tough love to wake people up from their dream worlds. Last edited by RachelandSadie; 12-08-2011 at 12:55 PM. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | "I am not a breeder.". No matter how many times I hear it, it still cracks me up ( but not in good way.) Sigh. Wait for me, Laci.

| Let me share a story with you all. My foster, also named Chloe's former owners tried to breed her once. She had to have an emergency c-section due to complications during whelp. She only had one puppy and it died. The vet then performed an immediate spay on her. She almost died as well. Now she has a huge scar on her belly from this. Chloe was lucky, she didn't die. Why someone would want to risk their baby like this is beyond me. I don't understand why anyone would go through all this, and then just give away the puppies. Why don't you just buy them one from a reputable breeder who actually knows what they are doing? Better yet, rescue one from the shelter, or adopt a rescue. YOU ARE ADDING TO THE PET OVERPOPULATION. YOU ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE AND MORE PERFECTLY HEALTHY DOGS BEING PUT DOWN.
