| Food Suggestions Hey everyone! Just a quick question regarding food - I am currently giving Gizmo Iams small breed food (in the green bag) he's been on this for quite awhile as when he was little he had many issues with what appeared to be a neurological thing - having like tremors & being lethargic etc. i had him tested for many things to rule out stuff - turned out vet said it was a food sensitivity. we tried a few things during this time to see if anything stopped these "episodes" he's been fine for a good while now but after changing to Iams we've not changed it. My husband and I feel there are higher quality foods out there just not sure what would be good to go to. Any suggestions?! or should I pose this question to his vet? lol Thanks, Tim |

| I use Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier formula for my Teddy when I'm not doing his home cooked food. He's been on it now for 6 months and does very well on it with no problems. He is the little cutie smelling the flowers in my avatar. Good luck finding a food.

| Oh - thanks for the suggestion - is that readily available? like Petco or somewhere like that? What do you "home cook" for him? We dont really give Giz much human food - other than a little nibble of ham or an egg or chicken occasionally. Since we had so many issues w/ him in the beginning im a lil hesitant (maybe a tad overprotective lol) |

| I wouldn't be too quick to switch from Iams..not because it is the best food in the world, but because it seems to be doing a good job of managing what your vet thinks are severe food issues. I'd consider Hill's and Royal Canin. Opinions very greatly on YT, so you will get lots of different thoughts.

| Thanks! i'm going to look into that Royal Canin that you both have mentioned - and maybe get a small bag to test the waters and if all is well gradually change him. |

| Honestly, there are better foods than Iams. but there also are worse ones. If he's doing well on it, why do you want to switch? You might want to try a LID (limited ingredient diet). Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance has three flavors in their LID line. I'm sure there are other brands as well. At least with LID, it's a minimum amount of ingredients and that could be helpful in determining what he's allergic to and to eliminate that from his food. Good luck!

| we were only thinking about changing it to a higher quality food for him - we tried the natural balance duck & potato before - he was still having issues. May I should retry that and see if now that he's older if he's able to tolerate it. he did enjoy it @ the time. |

| I have feed and liked Orijen, Natures Variety, and Taste of the Wild. I have tried Wellness Core and although it was a good food the pieces seemed to be to darn hard though. Callie had also tried a sample of Canidae Pure Sky and loved it but I cannot find any one who sells that around me.

Yorkie Yakker | I would take the opinions of the people here (They have a great deal of experience and knowledge.) , and narrow down the foods you think might be better. Then I would talk to your vet to see what he thinks, and the best way to approach a switch. |

| Just make sure the 1st two ingredients are a meat like chicken, lamb etc. After that, it's pretty much what your dog will eat. I bought a bag of Blue Buffalo chicken and brown rice puppy formula for Bailey and he wouldn't eat it unless I starved him for days. What I got him as a replacement he wolfs down! Find something with little or no grain that the ingredients start with chicken etc, if your little furball loves it, you're home free. |
