| Cleaning Yorkie teeth Our breeder showed she could her fingers in Dexters mouth. We can too, but a q tip with mint flavored Listerine is not something he will tolerate. Any recommendations for teeth cleaning? I want him to learn now while he's a puppy. TIA |

| It is important to clean their teeth on a regular schedule and to not use human products but use a doggie toothpaste - your vet can recommend something or he/she may even have a product you can try. You can avoid alot of health issues by starting a regular toothbrushing for you baby. |

Just wanted to add: human/baby products can contain artificial sweetners, some of which may be deadly for a dog. Listerine contains 24.6% alcohol , among other things. A descent dog toothpaste is enzymatic... that means that even if you can't do a super job brushing, the enzymes in the toothpaste will continue to work on his teeth long after you stop. It comes in chicken or beef flavors, which I think any puppy would prefer over minty alcohol, lol. Or they make gels that you just apply to the gumline, brushing is not a requirement with some of these. In a pinch you can use a little bit of baking soda, but it will give him diarrhea if he eats too much of it.

| I read the Listerine can be toxic to dogs so I would not use that plus Listerine burns my mouth I cant imagine how much it burns his. I would get a small tooth brush or finger brush and use CET tooth paste.

| I buy my toothpaste for Harley at walmart, it comes in a package with the toothpaste and a finger brush. Harley loves the stuff, it's like a treat to him. Smells kind of like vanilla.
