| Lyme vaccine info? I recently took my cat to the vet and noticed some ads for a vaccine for lyme disease. I had never heard of it but am considering it for my girl as I have taken 6 ticks off her this year. I don't walk her in an area where she could pick them up but I suspect she has gotten them from the cats that do pick up ticks outside. Has anyone heard of this vaccine or used it. I looked it up online but can only find old information on it. I don't want to take any chances with Gracie so any info you have of personal experience would be appreciated. |

| I've read it's not very reliable, and as Lymes is a treatable disease, I have chosen not to vaccinate against it. If you do decide to get it though, it's safer to get it alone, 4 weeks either before or after any other vaccines.

| Levi has not ever had the Lyme vaccine. He is on flea/tick preventative year-round, and we live in an urban area with very few ticks. I did find a tick on him once after a visit to my parents' house (they live in the middle of nowhere), but the tick had not attached at all, which I attributed to the preventative. I haven't really looked into the vaccine, as ticks have never been a real issue for us. If you get it, I'd definitely get the vaccine alone, not combined with any others.

| For the last two years I have gotten Callie the lyme vaccine my vet recommends it and even with Advantix on she was picking up very tiny ticks and I was really worried about it. Maryland where I live also seems to have a tick problem. I think if you can prevent something with out adverse affects that you should. We as humans really have no idea how lyme or kennel cough or anything else feels to them so we should try to protect them against it rather then not and then treat them when they get it.

| When I looked into it, I wasn't impressed. Nothing indicating it has changed either.... I'd personally opt out in most or all cases.

| I live by Lyme, Connecticut where Lyme Disease was discovered and named. I don't have Piper vaccinated even though Lyme is quite common (I have had the disease 3 times). I found with my first yorkie that every time I had him vaccinated for Lyme within 10 days he was sick with the disease. After 3 years in a row I finally thought that maybe the vaccination was making him sick. He was never vaccinated again and lived to be 13 years old without ever getting sick with Lyme. I always used Frontline Plus on him as I do on Piper.

| Most of our property is wooded and there are definitely ticks. All my dogs get the Lyme vaccine. I haven't had any problems with the vaccine....and none of the dogs have gotten Lyme disease I am planning on getting the vaccine for Tink as well. |

| I tried using Frontline for fleas and ticks on the cats last year and while we had no flea problem I was still finding fully engorged ticks on them so apparently the tick preventative part of it was useless. I did not use the advantix on Gracie because I didn't think ticks would be an issue with her. Most of the ticks I have taken off her had not fully engaged into her skin but two did. The old information I did find on the lyme vaccine was stating that it was making dogs sick. This information was from 1999 so I imagine what ever the problem was should have been addressed by now. Gracie is up to date on all her shots so I would not be doing it along with anything else. I think I may wait until next spring and consider it again then. I do believe it would be better to prevent a disease than wait until someone gets it to treat it. Symptoms can sometimes be undetected in an animal until the disease has advanced to a more complicated and painful state since they cannot always tell us what they are feeling. It's a hard decision and I need more facts before I decide. I think I will call my vet and ask her what kind of results she has had with it and hope she will be honest with me. |
