| Ok, so here we go AGAIN....LOL Ok, so I've been trying to grow out Faith's coat since we got her. She will be two years old in May 2012. So, my question is: What's the secret? Lol. It seems my little lap dog is more like my black lab and is always in some sort of woodsy mess. She gets thistles and burrs EVERYWHERE. We had finally made progress but ended up having to get her shaved because the burrs refused to let go. Not it's back to square one....lol. Now she looks completely different because a lot of the remaining puppy coat/coloring is gone. I think she's trying to tell me something....What do you guys think? The first three pics are of her a few months ago, her coat was much longer right before the groom. The last pic of is of her as a 5-6 month old pup, right before we had to shave her the first time. Ironically, my yorkie-pom is in full coat...lol... Of course, she doesn't go digging, hiking or exploring. |

| She doesn't matt though. It's just all the stuff she manages to get into! After this past shaving, she is not a much shinier steel blue/gold coloring. How long does it take for the puppy coat to fully grow out? |

| The full coat can take anywhere from 3-5 years to come in. There are products that can help grow and protect a dog's coat, like a spray on, leave in conditioner. With her habits you may need to brush her out every day or even twice a day, so the foreign stuff she picks up can't damage her coat. I walk mine with a brush in my back pocket for my little leaf magnets, lol.

| Also the coat grows in stages after being cut or damaged. New growth will change in around 2 months, it may change color or texture.

| With four dogs, I've taken to digging up and trashing any plants that produce unfriendly things that the pups can get into. I'll probably end up with just grass by next spring, lol.

| Thanks :-). She is a sweetie and the reason why my hubby loves her so much is because she has the same temperament and behavior of our lab. However, our lab doesn't come home with everything she's been through still on her coat. Will up the brushing and walking with a brush is a great idea! Round three....let's see if this ever happens. I meant to say she is NOW shinier with more adult coloring. So I guess the shave sped up that process, even though I do miss the black/tan puppy coloring! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Okay here is the dismal deal, as I see it. If you want a long coat, and to hike, swim, bring your dog through grasses n plants n stuff, you will need to wrap the coat, to protect it from the environment. I do know cause I do this with my show boy, and even still we will lose some coat.

| Sorry, no help from me either, I also have a burr magnet, just look at it this way, your baby IS SO BLESSED CUTE! What's not to love, even though the burrs and other stuff is not fun, it's just the way they are , run, sniff, play, sticking their noses into EVERYTHING! And giving you back that love. Oh, big sigh's. so much love too.

| I know this is not the answer you are looking for but dang I really like her hair style the way it is. Of course this is coming from a Yorkie owner who keeps her little girl cute very similar to yours.
