| Eww! Bailey just went outside and came in with an oil tail/bummy. I think I'm going to go give her a bath now. I wiped it off with a paper towell, and it was like a yellow faded color. I have no clue what it was and she was wiping her butt on the carpet, now that won't do! She is in the bathroom now, didn't want her running all over the house. Gross... I wan't to know what the heck this is! |

| REALLY!? What the heck does that mean? She has never done this before, and I was cooking dinner and she just went outside, and she kept whinning after she went out, and then a little while later I was going to put her P.J.s on and I saw her tail oily... not her but really, but her tail looked like she just bathed in oil. She went up to the bathroom for a little bit and she whipped her but on a white towel(what ever, can be cleaned) and it was brownish yellowish! She is spayed and all, but this has never happend before...what should I do?? |

| This is more normal than most folks think. There is a gland located on the inside of a dog's anus on each side. They can fill with fluid from time to time. This fluid is usually expressed out of the anus when the dog poops, but sometimes they get clogged. Sometimes they clog when their diet produces too soft stools. A not hard, but firm stool usually does the trick! That's when you'll most likely see them do their scoot dance on your carpet! LOL. They are trying to relieve the pain from the pressure the fluid is putting on them. Sometimes vets and groomers will do this if they need expressing, but everyone should learn how to do this for thir pets, just in case. It's not a pretty sight and smell, but u can really help your dog out if needed. Thank goodness she managed to do it herself. Yep, I would say a bath is in order, but I bet she feels much better now! Do a quick google and there are a few sites that show you how, but the best way is to get the groomer or vet to show you first hand. |

| OH my good Lord. Went downstairs to check up on her, and right after her bath... happened again! I researched it to see how to relieve her and I... well you know. SOOO gross, the smell was disgusting, I think I might of gagged a couple times. I hope she is relieved. Cleaned her up in the sink with some dawn soap, just on her bum bum. I really hope it's all gone. How will I know? How often should I do this? What else shall I do?!!!! |

| I started grooming my dogs myself to save some money since staying home with baby. My dogs still go to the groomer because I don't want to do anal gland cleaning or dental myself (our groomer is a vet tech so she does a bit more than most), also i do period ear plucking but am not especially great at it so she does it correctly and completely for us. Many people forget about ear plucking (not common for Yorkies for my mini schnauzer and Schnorkie it's needed) and anal gland cleaning. Anal gland cleaning is very necessicary I think it's over done a lot though we do ours every 3-6 months and our groomer says it's not always needed but every 6 months depending on what your feed your dog.

| I haven't had to do this very much, but yes,LOL, it'll make u gag! Sometimes they can become infected and cause great pain so if she keeps scootin, or having the substance coming out, you may want to have the vet look at her to make sure there's no infection. My mom had a boston terrier that her's became impacted once and it was a painful thing for the poor baby. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! The vet drained them and put her on anitbiotics to speed the healing and she was fine. Mom didn't know about this and I learned it myself through her babies experience, but mom always kept an eye on her area after that. Sometimes the only way you can tell is when they scoot on ur floor, but sometimes they will swell too. Most people just keep a check everytime they give their pet a bath or once or twice a month. Most groomers consider this as part of the grooming process, but you can always ask if you take her to one. She may not be doing this procedure. Some breeds are more prone to it than others and diet sometimes plays a part. Like I said, if the stolls are too soft, it might not put enough pressure on the glands as it's coming out to make the fluid release. You don't want your baby constipated by any means, but a firm stool helps express them. That's that wet stuff you can sometimes see on the feces after she potties. I've found that natural canned pumpkin will help with their stools as it can stop diarrea and also stop constipation. If I notice either one in my babies, I give them a tablespoon of it. Just make sure it doesn't have the pic spice and other stuff. It has to be the pure pumpkin. Hope this helps. Don't gross out, she was just uncomfortable and now she'll be better. If you know your feeding her the right chow and doing all you can, she will be ok. It's just one of those things that happen sometimes. A dog's stool can change on a daily basis. I wouldn't bother giving her the pumpkin unless she was having either problems severely for about 24 hours. Hope this helps. |

| Green beans can't hurt anything so why not-it's more of a dietary supplement for them than a first aid triage type of remedy. Personally if it was ozzing I'd schedule with the vet, but it grosses me out. If it keeps up for more than 48 hours you should definitely schedule for the vet to just check it, a regular non-emergency but soon check up. Infection and compacting is the major issue with anal glands.I'd also make sure she keep the area clean in the mean time like using an antibacterial substance around her bum-like (mother's apple cider vinegar) you can buy at any grocery especially since the holiday to keep bacteria from getting int here right now. Just externally coat her or keep washing her with an antibacterial rinse.

| The pumpkin is to help regulate the stool. When the dog defecates, it's the poop that expresses the glands on it way out. If it's too soft, the glands won't express sometimes. |
