| Mommie's Potty Break????? I posted this in another section, but got no response, so I'll repost here to see if I can get any suggestions/hints. Well, I took my girls for a visit from FL to SC and back. (We will be moving there soon.) I started out with them in the Snoozer car seat, but because of the lengthy timeframe in the car, I took them out of it. I put a box on the floor (to make it level with the seat), put their puppy bed on it, and strapped both in to seat belt. They could only go so far and could not fall. Their food and water were right there and they could move around a little more than in their Snoozer.....and it was a long drive. They did wonderful though as I stopped and took them potty and let them stretch their legs. The question is...how do I take a potty break???? The rest stops do not allow pets; there is a big sign on the door. I did sneak them in once in a puppy purse, but every time after that, I was caught and was not allowed in. It is just me and the two girls and I will NOT leave them in the car alone. Anybody have any suggestions? |

| Awwww, they are adorable! Good question. I have no idea. Unless you find a pet friendly place. Good luck. Maybe someone that travels a lot can give you some advice.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | The girls are adorable! If you absolutely will not leave them in the car while you go, then your options are limited. If you couldn't find someone you trust to stay by your car, the only other thing I could think of....the product used by our astronauts in space and while driving from Houston to Florida....Adult Diapers

| I would just get a better bag that looks like a purse, be discrete and quick.

| The suggestions for a different bag that looks more like a purse is probably going to be your best solution IMHO (i.e. Kwigy Bo). Another thought would be the same people that are telling you that you can't take your furbabies in (if you feel comfortable) would they watch them while you quickly use the facilities or would they watch your vehicle if you left the kids in it since you are traveling alone. I have also taken an exit, found a gas station that has an outside restroom & taken my furbabies in a bag. As a last resort, I take a second set of keys so I could leave my car running, if it is too hot/cold, with my Shih Tzu in it in the past while I quickly run in to do my business when there just is no other option being sure I am parked in a crowded area so someone would be noticed trying to break in my car.

| Thanks everyone. No adult diapers for me! lol I guess I need to be more careful so my girls aren't seen. They are such good girls and are better at traveling than I thought. They now know what the blinker means when they travel.....mommy is stopping and we get to get out and sniff all kinds of good stuff!!!! lol Thanks again.... |

That's what I do, I find an a gast station with an outdoor exit. If I just can't make it and I absolutely have to leave Brandi in the car, I put her in her bag, put it in the back seat and cover the bag with a blanket. You should see how fast it takes me to potty . I travel to Nashville from Delaware frequently and it's about a 12 hour drive. Most of the time, I am able to find some place that will let me potty indoors with Brandi with me, but there has been those time when I had to leave her in the car. | |

| I found a bag that looks just like a purse, and honestly that's probably your best option. I guess I find it odd, cause every rest stop on my usual long route has dog treats hidden. Even though their not supposed to allow dogs, when I explain I don't want them stolen I've always been welcomed in. Harley is also indoor trained, so it's rare that he'll pee outside. So I take the dog into the stall with a pee pad and let him have a bathroom break too.

| They kicked me out of one reststop. The man asked me if I could read the sign and said I couldn't take them in. He was really mean about it too. When Ally was a puppy, a woman asked me to remove my puppy and take her to the dog walking area. She was three months old and we went to see my youngest son graduate from Basic Training. I had just put Ally down on the ground of the rest stop and the woman snapped at me. At three months and somewhere between 1 and 2 lbs, how much could she poop if she actually did! lol I have always carried poop bags too. There are all kinds of people out there.... |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Living in PA and being from AL, we are going to have to get used to the long travels too. I know when my hubby is with me it won't be a problem, but I do worry when I am alone. I am guessing I will take my extra set of keys with me so I can leave the car running with the heat/air on depending on the season and lock the car from the outside so she will be safe. And then I guess I'll run in, go really quick, and run back out. People will think I'm either really sick or just crazy....LOL. But I won't care. I guess if you could find an outdoor park with facilities you might could go in there with your dog. Or maybe if you are desperate a porta potty, but I would not let my dog go in those things. I will barely go in one myself. They are awful. I am not sure if I could sneak Katie Scarlett in a purse. She would wiggle or bark too much and I'd be caught for sure. LOL. Another place you could sneak in with your bag...McDonalds. Most of them have that door near the back by the restroom. I think you could sneak in there and no one would notice and their stalls are usually the kind with the door to the floor so no one would notice I think. Good luck to you! Safe travels!

| I know how you feel and I hate leaving my pups in the car too. I thought about it a long time ago and said, I wouldn't leave my purse in plain view even if my car is locked so why would I leave my babies? But I do have to say that I have traveled 2+hours to dog shows and what I do is put Mickey in his crate for traveling and I just run in and run out. I figure that people really can't see him down in his crate but I still am really quick with my potty break. I also go in first myself and then take him out for his break because I figure that if someone were to see me out with him and then see me leave him in the car, they might be more likely to break in. I know how you feel though, it is difficult. |

| Having had one theft attempt with Cali I will never leave her in a car again. We travel a lot and I use gas stations with rest rooms that open to the out doors. She uses piddle pads so it works for both of us. Good luck on your travels!

| I travel across state at least one a month to see either one or both of my kids that are away at college. I have a mustang with split folding back seats. One seat is up and ZoE's car seat is there & she's strapped in for the trip. I fold down the other seat and put her crate so that it is mostly in the trunk area with the crate door opening over the folded down seat. At most stops I just pop her in her Kwigy Bo bag and take her in with me, but I have also popped her in her crate (so that she wasn't so visible at the window) and ran in. It depends on how close I am to the doors and the weather/time of year.
