| New dog making Yorkie depressed? I found a maltese the other day and she is the sweetest thing. I'm currently looking for her family with no luck so far. If I don't find her family soon, I would love to keep her, but there is one problem. Capone, my yorkie, wants nothing to do with her. If new dog comes into the room he leaves out, if I'm playing with Capone and new dog comes in, Capone just stops. He doesn't want to even look at her. I have been giving him so much extra love and attention since the maltese has been there but he acts like he's so sad. He walks around looking like Eeyore. He seems to perk up a little bit more everyday, but I hate seeing him like this. Has this ever happened to anyone? Will it just fade a way in time or did you do something to help? Please help. Thanks.

| My Shih Tzu did this when I brought my Cedric home (yorkie). She was very aggressive with him and extremely jealous. Now 6 months later she loves him and has learned to share a bit. She steals his treats still which I have to watch but for the most part the first three months were the worst and now they are happy furbabies together. Good luck and the extra love to Capone should help and eventually make him secure that you can love them both at some point.

| Please send a picture (photo) of this dog to animal control & your local police/sherif department. Also take it to ANY vet's office to get scanned for microchip. Appearances can be deceiving someone out there may be heartbroken & sick with worry over the lost furbaby. Yes, bringing any dog into Capone's home may cause various types of upset. Time.

| I've done all of that. I've posted on Craigslist, flyers all in the neighborhoods near by, went to the local shelters and vets and posted flyers and no one is claiming her. It's breaking my heart because so many people are looking for there lost dog and no one is claiming this one. I've been doing my very best to find her family because I would be completely devastated if Capone was missing. I'm not going to give her to anyone except her family, I'm doing all the right things as far as searching for her family, if she has one. But I don't want my dog to stay like this forever. I don't know if he is depressed or if this will be temporary and it's breaking my heart to see him like this. I was wanting to know if there is anything I can do to make this easier on him while she is with us whether that's just one more day or forever.

| For Maci I give them treats together. We just brought Diesel home a couple days ago, and Maci has been pretty good but she will hide under the table or in her dog bed and just watch him with no interest in coming over to me if he is in the room. However say "wanna go outside" or "want treats?" she will run over right along side him. So I try taking them outside together, feeding them at the same time, doing ther tricks for treats at the same time... and so far it's really helping. Maci has even tried playing with him today... although unfortunately I don't allow that because he is a big dog. But it's good that she is being playful/acknowledging him in a playful manner.

| Rusty was that way, as he was 4 yrs old before I ever got another Yorkie. I also rescue Yorkies and what works for me is to separate them into separate rooms. Rusty is still aloof, guess he always will be. Yes, he is spoiled rotton.

| Did she get microchip scanned? Well as harsh as it sounds even if you do all the right things like give him extra attention and treats and his normal alone time with you it's still going to be a transition for him, some take to it better than others just like people...dirty four letter word:time.

| Thanks for all the advice! Time seems to be the answer. I saw his tail wag today and we played a good few games of tug a war. I was so happy to see him perk up and be hisself for a little while. Seems like he's just adjusting and hopefully it will pass. And yes the maltese has been scanned for a microchip twice and she doesn't have one. I have even put an ad in the paper and people have called but its not the right dog. I have done everything right to find her family, I'm not trying to steal anyone's dog.

| She looks like she may have had a litter, she's so small I can't believe she would have been bred. Shes not trained at all, but I've been working on it. She's super sweet though. I wish I knew her story. At this point I feel like if they wanted to find her they would have found her. I'm trying to not get attached but how can you not?! I want to get her vaccinated and fixed but I'm trying to hold out in case they do come looking for her.

| It always takes time when you introduce a new furry to your current ones. Hopefully, with all the flyers and your dillegence and attempts to locate, you will be able to find the owners, if not, it is good she has found a home!

| You should tke her to have teeters done, you wouldn't want to revacinate and have her get sick. Hang on to all proof of you trying to reach her owners-get the receipts copy or screen shot your craigs list add post it on your FB save this thread, save a copy of the newspaper and a flier you posted-heck I'd take a pic of the fliers they are posted! Note the day time and who you took her to to have her scanned take her to your vet's office now just for a check up-have them scan her again and document it and all of her condition-every detail. You are documenting trying to find her owners...should someone produce themselves later after you get her all 'fixed up' you may get into a sticky spot so CYA...ownership gets blurred on pets proving she was unclaimed despite more than reasonable efforts and later her improvement & care by you can be a savior should someone try to claim her later.

| I wonder if it would help to take them both for a walk together. It might help them bond that way. I think you're a wonderful person to save this lil girl.

| I would also agree, if the owners really cared about her or at least were looking for her... they should have found you by now. If you want to get her fixed, then I would say after you've had her for 3wks-month, do it. I know where I live if you provide food and shelter for a "stray" and can prove you tried finding owners the dog is legally yours after 30 or 60 days of providing food, water, shelter. You should check out laws/bylaws of ownership and etc in your city. Good luck and I'm glad it's going good!
