| New Yorkie Owner With Many Questions Hello everyone. My parents recently gave me a yorkie as a present. I love the little guy so much. I do however have so many questions and have gotten so many different answers from online. Right now, my main question is about my dog being emotional after being groomed for the first time. I had a mobile groomer come by, they did a wonderful job but my dog has been sleeping since they finished with him. I do get him up and take him out to pee. He hasn't eaten anything since breakfast either. I checked for bruises or cuts but found nothing. Is this normal behavior for a yorkie after getting groomed? Another question I have is about vaccinations. I have his paperwork and he was vaccinated at 12 weeks, he will just hit the 16 week mark soon, does that mean he's up for another round. Any feedback will be so grateful. His name is Millhouse (after the Simpson's character). |

| Welcome to our fun family. Yorkies are the very best ever. Under Yorkie Health and Diet is a great overview of vaccines which should help with your question. I had a Shih Tzu who would be totally exhausted after she was groomed. Maybe it's stress but are you sure a sedative wasn't used? Sometimes groomers will use one if the dog is restless. I think it's wrong and I'd be furious if that was the case. I'd call and ask.

| Welcome to you and Millhouse! Lots of nice people and lots of info here. You can also search previous threads using the search box at the bottom of YT pages My girls are approx 3yrs old and they spend the afternoon resting after I bathe and groom them. Here's the current AAHA Vaccine Guidelines (table starts on pg 4): http://www.aahanet.org/publicdocumen...s06revised.pdf Hope this helps. Would love to see a pic or two.

| He's very young yet and probably a lot of things happening to him are pretty stressful, especially a bathing and grooming session. Some dogs always hate that and get stressed. Until Tibbe got older and began to love his bath, he used to drink water the whole afternoon after a morning bath - some type of reaction to his stress I guess. And he napped a lot after a bath too. Now he loves his bath and his day after the session is no different than any day. I would think this long nap is just resting up after all the shaking and nerves he probably felt during the grooming.

| Grooming can totally wear a dog out. They have to stand the whole time, and bathing , blow drying, clipping, even when its not painful or stressful, its just alot and can make them very sleepy. |

| Under normal circumstances you would see the vet within the first couple days of getting a dog... If you have had him four weeks and not taken him to see a vet that is not to wise. If he is still a puppy , he needs to have a vet look him over, he may need to be dewormed, need other shots and all this the vet would give you advice on. If he is sleepy and only a puppy , you may try hand feeding him and or giving him chicken and perhaps some nutrical...If I were you I would get him to the vet sooner then later!!! All puppies/dogs need a series of shots to maintain health.

| Welcome, being a newbie is scary, but you've come to the right place for answers, and remember NO QUESTION IS DUMB!!!! We've all probably thought them ourselves! The number one thing you need is a good vet, if don't have one already, see if you can get recommendations from a friend or better yet from your breeder. And your puppy probably was just stressed out from the grooming it's alot of work becoming beautiful LOL. And I'm sure he want's to be beautiful for you. Again welcome.

| Thank You everyone!!! Yes after sleeping it off, he was back to his playful self the rest of the day. I called the Vet's office and I will be bringing him in a few days for a check up and to see if what vaccines are next for him. |
