| I cannot find a reputable breeder around my area Hi guys, new here and have registered since I am interested in owning a yorkie but I cannot find a reputable breeder around my area (new orleans, LA). I tried a few breeders listing websites and classified ads (some are too far so I can't do a home visit while others have a lot of other breeds for sale besides yorkies). I went to pet store to take a look but as I've read the guide about pet stores, I try not to buy from them cus they are expensive and could be from pet mills. I went into one since it was located in the mall and I was in there already the other day. They wanted $1500 for the small thing. Not sure if I want one shipped to me. Can you guys help me out? |

| If you are trying to stay local, how about checking with your local vets? They know if they have clients that are breeders. Also, if you encounter a breeder that doesn't have any puppies available at this time, ask if he/she can refer you to other breeders, so you can expand your search that way. I too am looking for a (2nd) pup. I'm willing to drive across state or out of state though if necessary to find what I want. Yorkies have a long life expectancy, so I'm will to travel to find what I want in my life for the long haul. Good luck in your search

| You might want to consider other towns like Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Lafayette, Houma. When I did rescue (and im originally from Louisiana we'd always pick up dogs in these towns from breeder homes every now and then) I know the flea market in prarieville used to have dogs but I highly doubt they were reputable, but they might know someone. If you really want to find a reputable breeder, you gotta REALLY do your homework. It takes a while and sometimes you gotta make a drive. I put some serious miles on my car but then found my breeder an hour away. You could even ask yorkie owners in like petsmart where they got it. OH, and FWIW 1500.00 isn't really that outlandish, a reputable breeder might be asking around the same neighborhood.

| First of all, welcome to YorkieTalk. You have come to the right place to be part of a large family of Yorkie lovers. You might try YTCA (Yorkshire Terrier Club of America) for breeders in the New Orleans area. Yorkie rescues are also a good avenue for finding a Yorkie in need of a home. Like Kazzy suggested, contacting local vets is also a good option. Good luck with your search! |

| Thanks for the help and information. I was able to get in contact with a breeder that lives 2.5 hrs away, but I think it would be worth it. |

| Try the website, Mary's Little Yorkies. They are located in Hazelhurst, MS They often take puppies to New Orleans for shipping. I live in Texas and had one of their pups shipped here. Gorgeous dogs with great bloodlines. |

This was my first day on your site. I am obviously a novice. Had you needed to provide negative input, it would have been much kinder to do it privately. Besides being rude, you are mistaken about several of your points. Perhaps you should revisit the site and do a more thorough check. As for me, I came on this site simply to learn and have fun..... | |

Edit note:it's not 'my' site it's a public forum designed to educate on all things Yorkies, especially in care, treatment and how to evaluate a responsible breeder. Also there is a really great thread you might want to look up called earned respect and please note the sticky's in the top of all the discussion boards.

| Oh and no I'm not mistake on anything I posted insinuating I am is quite rude actually. I went over the site quite thoroughly and could post quite bit more about the red flags. It's your first day and you have a personal reason for wanting to promote their breeding. Sorry you take it personal and consider it rude. Please read and learn more. Enjoy Yorkie Talk.
