| Overweight 15 week puppy!!! My Bella is 15 weeks old and she weighs 6.2 lbs . I noticed most owners say their puppies are barely close to 3 lbs. She full of energy. She eats raw in the am and 1/4 cup of keeble at pm. If she snacks it's normally on apples or carrots. I do notice that once she is done with her food she will run and eat our other dogs food. What can I? |

| Does she feel or look overweight (can you feel/see her ribs?) I can't tell because of that very pretty dress she is wearing. Kaos was around 2.5 lbs at that age but all yorkies are different. (He is only 4.5lb full grown.) Some yorkies are simply larger than others. (+10lbs at adult size) Has she been to the vet? If she checked out ok I wouldn't worry. I'm no expert though, maybe some of the more experienced YT mommy's will chime in. P.S. She's a cutie!!!

| Well, she's healthy and that's all that matters. Being very cute is a plus, too.

| she is soooo cute. Go to the size charts.. look at what she weight when you brought her home and you should see if she is in the "healthy" range. How big was her parents? What does her vet say? She looks fine to me

| When I was looking for my new puppy I called about a re-homing ad. The pup was 4months and 7-8 lbs! she was so cute but as big as my 2 1/2 year old Ziva! I couldn't adopt her because I wanted a better size combo- but.. my 3 lb 15 week old eats constantly- will get right underneath the big dog and try to get to her dish! she eats like 1/2- 2/3 cup a day. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It's impossible for a dog less than 6 months of age to be too fat, your dog will just be a little larger than some, and probably be around 10-12 pounds or so, but people who have larger Yorkies really love their mellower personalities. Many breeders suggest free feeding which means having food available all of the time the first 6 months. They go through spurts and some days want to eat everything, and other days seem to have lost their appetite, and it's best to let them decide how much food to eat. Bella is a beauty!

| I agree. Your dog isn't fat. It's just not going to be a tiny tot of a dog. Yorkies can vary in size. They still carry the gene that can make a dog the same size the Yorkie was 30 years ago. Even in a littler of puppies from parents that tend to be on the smaller size there can be puppies that grow bigger quite a bit bigger than the parents. |

| Every time I hear about a fat puppy, I LOL. I've never seen a dog under 6 months actually truly overweight. My Jackson was 6lbs at 12 weeks old. He's now a loving 16lbs.

| Just because her weight is not the same as other puppies her age does not mean she is fat! People tend to think that if a yorkie is a bigger yorkie it must be fat and that is very much not true. There are bigger yorkies that are not fat. I would talk to your vet and if he or she says there is no weight problem then you have a bigger yorkie. More to love!

| She is beautiful! Yorkies come in lots of shapes and sizes. I would think that just 1/4 cup kibble in the evening is not enough...especially if she is trying to get more. My dogs free feed and it makes me feel better knowing that they get to eat when they are hungry. I would caution against limiting her food too much.

As others have said I doubt you little baby is overweight. At 15 weeks Cody weighed 7 pounds. He's almost 2 and weighs 13 pounds and not an ounce of fat. We adore every ounce of him. (some Yorkies are just bigger - both of his parents were smaller than him - Dad 5-1/2 lb; Mom 8 lb). He's just more to love! Cailee is our new little baby and she weighed 2.5 lbs at 15 weeks and will probably be 4 - 4-1/2 lbs when grown. (she's 5 months old now and weighs 3 -1/2 lbs). While my pups are young, I give them as much puppy food as they want. I keep track of the amount to be sure that they eat enough but Cailee, for instance eats like a little pig. She eats 1/2 cup of kibble each day.

| She looks perfect to me. My pups are 3.5 and 6.0 pounds at 7 months old. One of my other Yorkies was 16 pounds and super healthy (she lived to be almost 17!) So no rhyme or reason with these little guys. My guys free feed. I usually put 1/4 cup of dry kibble in their bowl and refill as needed. They also get some treats during the day. As puppies, they get a few more treats than I would normal give because they are using so much energy playing and romping during the day. If in a few months, you are still concerned, you can ask your vet and see what she/he thinks. |

| Did the vet tell you that she was overweight or are you just comparing her to other yorkie puppies her age? You need to take into consideration the size of her parents (did you see them) and other factors in her final adult weight. She is only 15 weeks old and had a lot of growing still to do and needs proper nutrition. Did you vet give you a guideline and feeding schedule? Are you free feeding both your dogs? At this age she needs to be eating at least 3 times per day and I do not recommend free feeding because you cannot monitor the amount of food each of your dogs consume.

| She might just be a "bigger" yorkie. Still a yorkie, equally as cute! She looks perfect! Your doing a good job feeding her good things, and unless you feed her eveything under the sun... your fine! Shes a cutie! |
