| Rescuing a Dachshund tomorrow, I think... So my stepdad has a friend Digger, who is a good enough guy, he's hard to explain lol. He's a bit weird, but has a good heart deep down. So this guy Paul, who my stepdad has also known for years, moved in with Digger with two Dachshund's... Digger isn't thrilled w/ it because Paul is never home and he gets stuck taking care of them, and he's not really a dog person. So Paul says he was gonna start looking for a home for one of them who ironically is named Jackson. He is a 5 year old long haired Dachshund black color, and the other is a 1 year old short haired female. Well we visited over there today and this poor dog (Jack for short) is losing a bunch of his hair in his back area... apparently he had fleas before, but it did not look like he had any now from what we saw... he was scratching like crazy, he was hairless near his butt and his tail had almost no hair. I am assuming it's from a flea allergy. But the dog is suffering and he's a sweetheart. When I got there both dogs were tied on this little chain outside to their collars, and Digger said when Paul gets home, they usually just spend all the time in the crate anyways. Digger just brought another of his friends 14 year old Golden Retrievers to the pound because the owner was becoming sick and I just can't stand the thought of this dog just being dropped off at the pound like he was He needs to be seen by a vet. He's in pretty good shape otherwise, not overweight. He is neutered, I think, and had a rabies tag on that was not expired. Paul gave the ok for me to take him, he was either gonna bring him to pound or find another home and I'd feel better finding him a place to go over him... so I think I am gonna go over there tomorrow morning when I am on my way over to my dads house anyways, there is a really nice rescue over there where my stepmom volunteered and I think they will find him an amazing home. There's also a spay now clinic where Jackson got neutered and they could hopefully at least give him meds. I would not mind fostering him while they wait but I can't really keep him, plus they are not my breed of choice anyways. But I just wanna get this poor dog out of the living situation.... these guys should just not own dogs period, if you knew them. He seems like a lively active fun little guy and I just felt terrible leaving him there. So I guess I'll call in the AM and confirm, I hope Paul does not change his mind or something.

| Awww..... That is so Sweet of you!! I think it's a great idea. Dachshunds aren't really my breed of choice, either... My sister has "3" of them. I did see one, yesterday that I really liked. It was a long haired one and it was Completely Black. Not the black brown... but all Black. Its coat was really thick and shiney and it was such a happy sweet doggie. It was adorable! |

| Congrats on your new pup. I would get this guy to the vet ASAP & get that skin checked out as daschunds are prone to cushings & what you describe is a symptom of cushings. |

| So glad you are there to help this little guy! Not my breed of choise either but when one needs help I also overlook the breed! I had a minpin puppy over the summer that I got from a lady who was NOT taking care of it! It was full of worms and had colds in its eyes and spent 90% of the day in a small crate, and you guessed it.....would pee and poop on its own bedding because it had not other choice She is now in a loving home with a loving lady and spends all her time curled up on her lap!

| Sorry I did not have my computer on me all day. OMG he was soooo sweet!!! I picked him up and he just made himself right at home in my car. I put a little hoodie on him that did not fit Jackson anymore (he was a tiny guy!) My Jackson was looking at me like "Why is he in here?!" lol. I took him to my dads house where he got along great with their two dogs too. I let him run around in the back yard for a bit and he was sooo happy! He was a sweetheart- he loved to be held and loved on. He is very submissive when you reach down to pick him up, he like rolls over on his back. He is playful and has a lot of energy but he's not really hyper. My dad fell in love with him. He said he would have kept him had he not had 2 dogs already. So had him there for a few hours until the rescue lady whom we had met before and we adopted our dog from could meet me. I brought him to the place and she told me she could either help me out by listing him on petfinder, etc, and me keeping him but I'd have to pay for everything. Or I could be his official foster but then I'd have to be able to come on a whim whenever someone wanted to meet him, or to an event, etc. I decided to leave him there... I actually cried I only had this dog one day and I got so attached, it makes me sooo mad that the person who has had him all of his life wasn't even THERE to say goodbye or anything... like I was just picking up a box or a toy or something. I know he's in good hands, this rescue is awesome, they are SO great, they have tons of foster homes available, and she thinks he will be adopted really quick. We've had 2 interested already from my craigslist ad but I am taking him off there, as I don't trust CL people and they are going to put him on petfinder. He did have demodox mange and that was what was contributing to the hair loss and itchy. I am just so glad I got him out of that situation. Susan from the rescue said I can visit any time. I just hope they let me take the female Doxy too eventually, I wanna get her out of there also... He's gonna have a great home, I just know it. He rode great in the car, he warmed up to all of us real fast, he's house broken, gets along great with kids and other dogs! Here are some pics!

| What a lucky pup! So many rescues are hurting for foster homes.
