| Relief for itchy paws? Anyone have suggestions for how I can relieve Harley's itchy paws? Poor Harley is getting to a point he's gonna be licking them raw soon I'm not entirely sure of the cause, but we've been eliminating things from his diet thinking that he has an allergy, the vet instructed me to pick a one protein source food and keep him on it for 2 months, this is his only food, no treats etc. Also he had fleas, I applied Revolution a few weeks ago, and gave him a flea bath almost 2 weeks ago, I'm going to repeat the flea bath just in case this week. I also sprayed the whole apartment, and will likely re-clean his room this weekend too. (changed his bedding twice since apartment cleaning). So either of those could be causing the itchiness. I also think they are irritated cause he's licking them. I was thinking of trimming his hair a bit so that if there are fleas, they're easier for me to catch and clean off.. but I haven't seen any fleas (knock on wood) since the major cleaning a week and a half ago.

| I don't know alot about causes and cures. But you might try some hydrocortisone spray. I use it when Mrs. Beasley has a flare up with itching. Hope you can find your baby some relief soon.

| A hypo-allergenic shampoo. Be diligent about flea treatment and consider using Comfortis (for fleas). If they are environmental allergies, an anti-histamine may help. |

| My Roxi had the same problem, and she was also rubbing the fur off of her snout. After MUCH research I found that 100% pure extra virgin coconut oil cured her. I give her 1 teaspoon a day either off of the spoon (they love it) or I put it on her food. I have been doing this for 2 months and she has totally stopped chewing her feet/nails and rubbing her snout on the carpet. Google the benefits of coconut oil for dogs, there's a lot of information, and apparently it's good for humans too....Good Luck!

| I rinse the wheatens paws with lots of clear water, especially after walks when she might pick up lawn pesticides/fertilizers (she licks paws and than gets sick. I think besides allergies her immune system was compromised when she was young with over vaccination, exposure to chemicals, and a bout with the bad food recall) Kibble with chicken makes her crazy itchy almost instantly, that's why she only has TOTW fish formula. It is so hard to figure out what might be a combination of things.I believe probiotics have made a huge difference rebuilding her immunity. |
