| ? On Breeding & Snacks ? On Breeding & Snacks Ok my baby is 6 months old and i have ran into a problem his front pointy teeth have not fallen and his permanent teeth are growing right on the side of them. The vet said they need to be pulled out, but he also suggested that if i plan on neutering him I should do both procedures at one time. I don't know what to do. I want him to mate because i though of the joy it would be to be able to see one of his babys, but then they said that if i don't get him fixed early he will start to mark all over. And right now he doesn't do that and he still pees like a girl. I don't want my baby to be in pain twice I rather him be in pain once. At what age can i breed him? I understand the precautions to take to breed him. What do you guys think? Also regarding snacks I read in a Yorkie book that its ok to give your yorkie vegatables & fruit. Is that true? If so has anybody given there babys these and what kind? Please let me know. P.S. I would like if i could get some responses before Monday because Monday is when he goes in for the removal of his teeth & i have to decide whether to fix him or not. please let me know. Thanks. |

| Wish I could help......... I really am not sure about the age of breeding a male, but I thought it was 6-8 months. I'm anxious to hear from other breeders here to see what the answer is. Also, never heard of giving them fruits and veggies, so I'm excited to hear about that too. Sorry I couldn't help. Good luck in deciding. You could always go to google.com and do a search on the topic too. I do that alot. |

| Someone on here gave me advice the other day because my dog was constipated. They said you can give them baby jars of veggies like peas, carrots, and pumpkin. |

| I can't offer any advice on your breeding question and the only comment I can make on the fruit and vegetable question is ...do not give raisens or grapes to a dog! I just found out they are toxic to dogs. My husband fed our black lab 4 grapes and we all paid dearly for it. We were up at 2 in the morning cleaning up diarrhea all over the house. I mentioned this to a girl I work with and she said she thought grapes were toxic to dogs so I did an internet search and sure enough they are! He is doing fine now other than being gassy and that is starting to get better. Onions (not that I would feed that to my dog) are also toxic to dogs. If you plan on giving your dog some fruits or veggies as treats, I would suggest looking on the internet first to see it is safe or not for your dog.

| I hope this helps... If you plan on breeding him be prepared they forget their house rules "no pee in the house" they believe it is fair game to mark their territory once they've been bred. To prevent "his marking" you can purchase belly bans and line them with panty pads but they have to be changed often if your male has an accident. If your male has a dog door access they will still go outside and pee but continue to mark their territory inside. if you plan on neutering him it is usually done at 6 months and I always recommend having their teeth cleaned and any misplaced or bad teeth removed at the same time...Because your puppy is a toy breed the less they have to be put under the better off... Got Mojo? Donating Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Miami

| Breeding, from what i know, is recommended only after the first year and the best would be around 1 1/2 yr. As per snacks, i give Mojo baby carrots, he just loves ittttttt, also he likes apple. Remember it is just a snack, and not a meal component so give very little...and try to stay away from citric fruits. As per marking the territory, our rescue chihuahua was neutered 1 month after we got him ans he never did this, now how his previous owner trained him i have no clue but i would just love to know. Mojo also never did this but he was a puppy when neitered... Hope it helped!! |

| It is very interesting in hearing about the different snacks. Can you guys give me more ideas of what other items can be given as snacks?? I am fairly new to the Yorkie World. I got my baby Meeko for my birthday in August 2004. I would appreciate the suggestions.

| Chelsey gets a baby carrot to chew on or a piece of apple, i stay with her while she is eating that just incase ........ a little piece of banana is also good for them... No citric fruits tho. she also gets green beens out of a baby jar mixed with her own dry food about 3/4 times a week a rusk to chew on is also a good snack if u dont mind cleaning up the crumbs Mandy |
