| New Puppy HELP! I'm new to Yorkie Talk! I kept reading all the discussions that other people were posting about questions I have, then decided I would join & post my own to get answers!! I just got my new baby 2 weeks ago, his name is Charlie. The lady I got him from was very sketchy in some ways like she sent me fake pictures of him and lied about his shots and deworming, but she was very sweet and didn't cheat me out of my money and still answers me if I call her with any questions to this day. I think she just had a puppy mill and used them for the money . She said he was supposed to be 3 lbs full grown and when i got him he weighed 1.7 lbs. A week later he weighed 2.2 which seems odd to me. Also she claimed he is 12 weeks although I have been looking at his teeth and his front ones (incisors) are only half way to 3/4 of the way in.. is this normal for him to be 12 weeks and his baby teeth not all the way in? His toenails are almost completely black now except for the very tip which I don't know if that would help any with answers? His coat is great and is just starting to turn at the roots and getting longer. I know puppy hair stays short until they start getting older... Any answers anyone can give me about his weight or age and what you think it is and if the "breeder" is accurate will be MUCH appreciated!!! |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk and congrats on your new pup Charlie. Yorkie nails are typically black. That is part of what makes trimming them without hitting the quick difficult. The white is usually the quick. Start working with your pup regularly on nail trimming so that he will grow accustomed to it. If the nails hit the floor and make a clicking sound, they are too long. If his teeth are not all the way in, I believe he is younger than 12 weeks. Maybe a breeder or more experienced person will correct me. Max had his full teeth when he was 12-13 weeks. The growth you indicated sounds normal. Puppies grow very rapidly. One formula for guessing adult size is to double the weight at 12 weeks. This is not a guarantee, but may give you some idea. Post some pictures of your new little guy and members here may be able to give you some insight on his age. There is a fairly significant difference between 8-12 weeks. If you have not already, be sure to take him to the vet for a wellness exam and to get him up to date on vaccinations. It's always good to establish a relationship with a vet's office too.

| Welcome. I believe that a puppies teeth should be all the way through by the time they are 12 weeks. However old he is I'm sure you will love the little guy. I hope he turns out to be healthy for you. You have probably read about the health issues some puppy mill puppies have. I'm sure you are getting him checked out very well by the vet. People who breed a lot of litters of puppies can switch around their litter registration slips so you can't always rely on the papers to be accurate from a dishonest breeder. That is why the age of your puppy may not be correct. Some pups grow faster than others so it is something you may never know for sure. He will be a wonderful addition to your family anyway I'm sure. |

| His papers should have his birthdate on them..... And if she sent you fake pictures and lied about vaccines, I'm not sure I would trust her for advice. And no one can tell you how much a puppy will weigh full grown. It's like trying to guess how much a baby will weigh as an adult-not possible.
