| males vs female yorkies Can anyone give me some personal insight on having a male yorkie vs a female? Is one gender sweeter than the other or does it just an individual factor? I want a sweet, smart and energetic puppy that gets along with its family including other pets. Hyper does bother me. I just don't want a pet that is stubborn and stuck up. |

| Females tend to be more loving towards you... But sometimes thats not the case... Males tend to be independent, and playful, and they aren't really CUDDLE MONSTERS... but sometime thats not the case... These dogs are GREAT family pets (male, or female). And it does depend on the dog... To get the dog you want with a personality to match your description... you would need to set a date to meet up with a breeder (take your family too) and spend some one on one time with the puppy/puppies they have to offer and get to know its personality.

I agree with you i was just speaking about the breed in general... because my maxy is affectionate towards me too... he likes to cuddle. I think in general the female is more affectionate. But it depends on the specific dog itself.

| Just as people have different personalities, dogs do too. I think both, males and females, are sweet and loving. One should know that males are just as sweet as females. Since you are spaying/neutering either is a good match. |

| Exactly I have a female that is more cuddly than my male but a different male and it could be a different story. I have cuddly female cats too

| I agree that personality is something that is not gender based - it's just on an individual basis. The sweetest Yorkie I've ever known was the female we had when I was growing up. I have a female now who is a love, but she's so NOT like Chelsea was. I also know a male yorkie who was only sweet with his family and hated everyone else and another male Yorkie who thought that everyone in the world was his friend and wanted to play fetch constantly. Yesterday Belle and I met an 8 month old male Yorkie who was such a doll - very calm and sweet and loving. The advice you were given to meet with a litter and see which Yorkie fits with your personality is definitely good advice! Good luck in your search for your future pup!

| I have 2 girls and 2 boys, all of them have different personalities. My Tessie, doesn't like to cuddle and has an attitude, but loves her daddy. My Sassy is super hyper and loves to cuddle with me and can not stand to be away from me. Hobbes is affectionate but doesn't like to cuddle, he is also very sweet and tender hearted, if you correct him he gets sad. Calvin is very sweet and loves to cuddle. Tessie doesn't like to play but my other 3 play great together, except Hobbes wants to be the boss.

| My boys are very sweet, loving, and affectionate. Keep in mind that Yorkies tend to be high energy even if they are not hyper. They need a lot of exercise and stimulation. Being terriers, they can be headstrong. They are often feisty and proud little doggies. If you prefer docile and laid back and still want a Yorkie, I would advise looking for one that is not a puppy so that you will have a better idea of personality. You can either adopt from a rescue or look for a breeder who has a slightly older dog.

| Personally, I think it just depends on each yorkie. They all have different personalities and temperaments, whether male or female.

| I have a female and my mom has a male. Callie can be very stubborn at times and she does get mad at people and will not look at or respond to who she is mad at for sometimes hours, but she is very loving and pretty laid back about most things. Sammy my moms yorkie is a very nervous yorkie but other then that he loves people and is good with most things and never seems to be stubborn. Although they both have there hyper moments. I would not change having a girl because has such a great personality. It is harder to find clothing and stuff for boys and everything we have bought Sammy that is not custom we have to sew up some or he pees on it just a side note.

Senior Yorkie Talker | I have a male and female. Lexi is very independent and is sweet but cannot sit still long enough to cuddle. She does however love my DH, she gives him lots of kisses and follows him around everywhere. Max on the other hand is calm, affectionate and overly sweet. He loves me more than Lexi does and he is also more obedient than she is. Lexi gets in moods, one minute she wants my attention then another day she is all about her daddy. Max always loves his mommy Lexi also wimpers alot when she wants attention and Max is quieter. I guess Lexi is a typical woman... mood swings and all. However, she was easier to house train and she is alot cleaner than Max. Lexi would have a fit and literally cry if she accidently peed in her crate, which has never happened because she always makes us know when she needs to go. Max on the other hand pees alot and he doesn't care when or where and it is very hard to break him out of it. Like everyone said it all depends on the dog's individual personality and the environment they are raised in. Lexi was my first, so I think she is just spoiled and used to having all the attention.

| I have a male and a female, and my male is FAR more affectionate than my female. He lives for me and she lives for her brother
