I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Need Tips for getting two Yorkies to play! I’m fostering a 7 year old Yorkie, whose mama is ill. I’ve had him about a week, and he’s getting use to me and the routine here, but I still haven’t gotten him to play with Joey. I take them on walks at least once a day, and I try to play with some type of toy to get them both involved, but they don’t seem to notice each other. Joey is 6 and plays with my son’s dogs when they come over, but he met both of them as puppies; they will do lots of wrestling together and play tag. He also gets together at his breeders house, and plays with her dogs running and chasing each other, so I know he knows how to play. Ralphie’s mom says that he occasionally plays with his bigger sibling, who will initiate it, and I believe he tried to get Joey to play once. So my question is there anything I can do to speed the bonding and playing process, or should I just butt out, and leave well enough alone?

| I vote for butting out and leaving well enough alone. They will find each other eventually and start to play, or maybe they will just coexist. I would be happy that they get along. My boys did not play at first. Max just wanted show off for Teddy. Then he allowed Teddy to retrieve toys with him when playing fetch. Although they bonded right away and did everything together, it was months before they started playing with one another without human interaction.

| I think you should just give them time and let them decide if they want to play. My Tessie doesn't usually play with the other 3 and they have all been raised together.

| I'd say just wait and let them figure it out and just be really happy that they aren't fighting. Ralphie might just be uncomfortable, missing his other mommy.

| I know when I brought Dottie to live with us(Rescue from TN), my other 2 Cookie and Izzy would not have anything to do with her. I got Dottie in February of 2011. Well, it took about 5 months before Cookie and Izzy would even let Dottie lay with them. They welcomed into their cliche' about 2 months ago and now Dottie and Cookie play daily. Izzy is not interested in playing so it works out good for the other 2. Anyway, they are like kids!! Just give it time!

| You could do what I did and lock them in a crate together for a few hours a week. Or you could do what one of my vet's clients did. "Frosted" her cats with molasses, put them in the bathroom together, and let them lick themselves friends. OR you could just let them be and be thankful they aren't fighting which is what I'd suggest.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Do either of them fetch? My 3 love doing that together...so bc Wy always fetched, Marcel jumped in when he was a baby, as did Pfeiffer. I know socks aren't the best idea - but using a gym sock to get one to grab - and then try to put the other end by the other dog's mouth can be good to start them up - the sock is nice and soft, and easy to grab. Squeaky toys always get all 3 excited here. What about running and having them both chase you...and then you get down and the floor and 'wrestle' w/ them? Another one is Marcel and Pf LOVE playing hand games on our bed; as in, you put your hand under the sheet and move around really fast and they go after it...sometimes they then end up wrestling. It will happen !
