| In need of Help ! we adopted a Morkie and 2 days later read in paper that where we bought her was raided and was a Puppy Mill. she had been in a crate with Mum and litter for 9 wks without any human touch! the problem is...I take her out constantly..she hops and runs but will NOT potty. I have pads down in certain areas inside which she uses..but the last 2 nights she has pee on our bed! I have a potty pad on the bed now..hubby refuses to crate her so Im baffled? |

| If you are still in the new to home and routine process: You may have to stay outside until baby potties. Use a command like "go sniff". When I bring a new baby home we stay in the yard until it is all done, thank goodness this time it wasnt winter. I continually repeat,in a quiet tone,"go sniff". When puppy does what they are supposed to I literally dance and squeeee. The rule here is if dog didnt pee and poop at the last walk of the evening (about 10pm) then we dont come in. Yes it does take a while but they get into a routine and as they get older they know to get out there and get it done. There are 6 dogs here in different sizes and ages. Everyone goes pee and poo before bedtime, they stay in the yard with me or someone else until they do. If one of my kids or my husband trys to bring one back in without doing it all, I send then back out. The person that will be inconvienced in the middle of the night is ME. |

| Odd how some exact opposite methods will work, for different people and their dogs. When pottie training I take the pup to the same spot every hour at first on a leash. I say Go Pottie. I give them maybe 2 minuets. If they go, I praise, clap, pet and treat AND let them off the leash to sniff and play. If they don't go, I scoop them up and go back inside. Of course no praise, clap, pet, treat or play time if they don't go. My dogs get it. Pottie quick first thing and really good stuff happens. PS try putting a used pottie pad on the outside spot.

| Since the puppy was in a cage all it's little life it is probably used to peeing on paper of some sort and in a cage. When you take the pup out you might take one of the pee pads outside with you and have the puppy stand either on it or by it. If you are using the kind of pads that are scented to attract the puppy to pee it is going to work better. They also sell house breaking aid liquid that you can put on the pee pad to help the puppy want to go. You also might try buying the frame that the pee pads go in as it may remind the puppy of the cage situation. If you do have a crate you could try putting the pee pads in the crate as the puppy might relate to peeing and pooing in a confined area. Puppies that have lived in a cage like this are not going to respond the same way that a puppy raised around people would. Do you have pet steps so the puppy can get up and down off the bed? It could be he just had to go and could not get down by himself. The pet steps were one of my first purchases when I first got Gracie. |

| It's going to take some time. Keep at it though. Take her out frequently. Then when she finally does go potty, praise her and give her a special little treat. We used Zuke's Mini Naturals and they loved them! For a dog that has been in a crate all it's life, the grass feels so different that they don't know what to do at first. You just have to keep at it. It won't happen overnight though. |

| How old is the puppy? I would not put in bed with me until she is potty trained. She will potty on bed if she isn't. If you are afraid to take out cause of the copper heads which I totally don't blame you then start on the potty pad training. Use an x-pen till she gets trained. An x-pen is not a crate. You can put her bed, food and water on one side and the potty pad on the other till she gets trained. It is a job, but she can be trained. |

Owned by Bella & Tibbs Donating Member | I use an x-pen for my babies they are not allowed in our bedroom...Do you have her on a feeding schedule? That really helped my babies! Also I bought some spray stuff to spray on the pads that seem to be helping!Got it at walmart it was like 6$.Good luck!

| I've got to agree with the ppl who suggested xpens. Mine sleeps next to my bed in a playpen w her bed and some pee pads down. She walks into it every night and sleeps through the night w/o a peep. Downstairs, I keep a playpen in the laundry room off the family room. When I first got her, I put her food dishes in there and pee pads. When she pees on a pad, she gets lots of praise and a little "nip" of a treat. After a while, they get the message to go on the pad to get a little nip and lots of praise. I now leave the playpen up and open in the laundry room. I feed her in it, and she goes in there to potty on her pads. I think that method works well. We do not have accidents. She is fully trained.
