Yorkie Talker | Switching dry dog food! Just a quick thread to see what everyone thinks! We have fed our Yorkies Beniful since we brought them home. They like it and our vet says its fine but I read the label and the first ingredient was corn. My aunts boxer had to be changed to a dry food without corn ingredients because she was allergic to it and her vet said most dogs ARE allergic to corn. Jack and Delmer have no problems but Jill has stomach issues that flare up once in awhile and now I'm concerned that it may be her food. What brand do you all suggest?

| Mine have done really good on Welliness. I would rather pay for a better quality food than vet bills. They say Beneful is like feeding your dog twinkies. Research and find out the best foods and then if I were you I would throw out the Beneful. Good luck and I think you will be glad you changed in the long run. Can't believe a vet would think that was good food, and you not knowing, telling you it was okay. I think I might look for another vet too. lol!!! |

| I started Thor with Solid Gold Little wee bites and he loves it. I also switched our Doxie that had terrible allergies and it's made all the difference in the world with him. The only problem is that I can only find it at Petco so I have to buy 2 big bags to get me between trips, we don't have any pet stores within 50 miles.

Yorkie Talker | Thanks! Im not happy with out vet right now anyway! Jill has had stomach problems for over a year and they just keep saying not to feed her people food. We dont! So I think tomorrow I may research other vets.

| Anytime you want to see all of the ingredients in a particular dry dog food you can go to this website: Pet Food Online | Dog & Cat Supplies & Products | PetFoodDirect.com They have a listing of all of the ingredients listed at the bottom. All you have to do is click on the food you are interested in.

| Mine loved Wellness, but she's a wimp and had trouble chewing it. I switch her around occasionally. One she has loved for years is Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Ultra Premium Small Bites. I mix them, so she has also been getting Fromm's a La Veg.

| When I wanted to switch Callie to Wellness I emailed them asking about samples and they emailed me back asking me about my dog and the dog foods I was wanting to try and they sent me a few types they recommended and then the ones I wanted to try. Callie loved the wellness Core so that is what she is on.

| I home cook for my dogs but recently started using some kibble for convenience. Teddy has been eating the Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier and I am very impressed with the way he looks on it. He likes it better than home cooked food also.

| Beneful isn't all that great I've heard of it making a lot of dogs sick. Some foods I'd recommend would be Taste of the Wild, Castor & Pollux, Wellness, Acana, Natural Balance, etc.

| I'd say it isn't the worst, but it is FAR from the best. Even by some chance you had to stick with Purina (which you don't and I wouldn't) there are other foods made by them that are much better. Dogs aren't allergic to corn. Some can be just like any other food ingredient. As a species they are not.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I had to put Taycie on an RX diet recently due to allergies. If it wasn't her stomach causing her issues then her eyes would get goopy and her ears would be bright red inside. She was on Natural Balance LID formulas for awhile but I kept getting such goopy eyes and bright red ears and she would scratch.. When it came down to it.. if it wasn't one thing it was another with food.. So I decided to try an RX diet after talking with my vet. Now she is on her Perscription Royal Canin Potato and Rabbit. All I can say is for her.. It has worked Miracles! No more itching, scratching, red ears, goopy eyes. Her stomach has also tolerated wonderfully! My friend commented on her eyes the other day and said, they are so clear how did you get rid of the stains??? I am very happy with the results!

| I had Royal Canin when I got Tessie, my other 3 were on Eukanuba, I changed seral other times to Purina Pro Plan and Rachel Ray wasn't real happy with those so this weekend I bought Nutro Ultra (holistic) small breed adult. The dogs love it and I am hoping it will keep them healthier. So far after having Yorkies for 2 1/2 years we have no health problems. It is a smaller bag a cost a little more but I think it will be worth it.
