| Is something wrong with my Yorkie? I have seen other people's pictures on here and... My Yorkie's ears don't stand up they are at like half mast all the time and sort of flop over half way up. He is a three year old boy (as far as I know since he is a rescue) |

| Ears that stand up or flop is mostly to do so, because it is inherited. The breed standard for Yorkie ears say small V shaped (upright). Many, many full bred Yorkies are not perfect, they have floppy ears or are fat or have crooked teeth etc. Ears up or down is cosmetic, not a health concern. If your dog was a young puppy, you could tape the ears to train them to stand up while they were still growing. Don't worry your dog is adorable.

| There are lots of other Yorkies here that have the floppy ears. I think they're adorable! No worries, it's just that sometimes their ears just don't stand up. Welcome to YT

| Floppy ears... Worst case scenario is you have a cutie on your hands. a lot of us are happy owners of off standard yorkies. They're still cute and lovable, and are awesome companions. There is nothing wrong with that.

| Sophie Kate has bizarre ears that stand up except for the tips that flop, I know it is not standard but I love the look and at 3 years old she still looks very "puppylike". If you look in my photo album under her Christmas 2010 picture you will see what I mean about her ears.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Rhett has ears that are always at half-mast, too. And Scarlett's ear leather is so thick that they never did stand even a little bit. It's technically considered a fault, but they sure are cute with it.

| Jamie has the best of both worlds. One up and one down. People always remember her because of it and I love it since it is so unique and fits her quirky personality. |

| My Pixie has floppy ears too. I think they are adorable, however she does get a lot more ear infections than any of my others did/do. My vet actually gave me a cleaner it is for swimmers ear, I am to put that in her ears after each bath it helps dry out any water left in there, because they are floppy they do not dry as well. I try to make sure they are good and dry, b ut I like having this stuff to ensure it gets what I miss. I also found she has a lot of hair in her ears, I have never had to do the ear plucking thing with any of the others I have had, but with her I do. I do not do it myself tho, I get the groomer to do it as I would think it hurts and I do not want to be the one to do that to her. I was told it does not hurt them, it just makes a stranger sound to them and that is why they are a little jumpy during it, but I do not think I believe that.

| I have also heard that sometimes they dont stand up. If they are going to stand, about what age does it happen? My baby is almost 10 weeks and still floppy. Not too worried, just curious. Her parents ears stood up. Either way I think all yorkies are cute. ears up or down just makes them each unique!

| Nothing wrong with your little sweetie at all. If you had planned showing your yorkie this would be an issue I think. One of my previous yorkies (Wacky Jackie!) had one of each. The only thing I noticed was I had to clean out the ear that was floppy from time to time. We lived in a very humid climate then and she used to get a brown build up in her ear - the doggie version of earwax. When we would ask Jackie a question, she would always used to tilt her head so that her floppy ear was on the top side - too funny. Last edited by AbbyMax; 09-05-2011 at 03:57 PM. |

| My girl has ears that half flop, flop to the side, perk semi up... all depending on the mood...lol. She is purebred and both parents had ears that stood straight up. She's just a little on the wild side ;-). I taped her once when she was younger but she was so miserable that I took them off before time. They did stand for few days and although I had planned on trying to show her, I wasn't going to make her miserable. Ears up or down... ALL yorkies are cuties :-) |

| Thanks! I just didnt know if maybe they might eventually stand on their own. If she wants floppy ears then that's ok too. no plans to show her. My only plan is to flat out spoil her!
