YT 2000 Club Donating Member | You will need patience. You could try getting him used to a baby scrunchie, it goes in a lot faster and is usually tolerated better. And remember top knots need changing out at least once per day

| Once per day, really? I thought I read every couple of days somewhere. Any particular reason for daily changes? I haven't done a topknot yet as she had a visor puppy cut on her head when we adopted her. |

| i assumed it would be everyday just because of sleeping and daily activity. i think it would be neater if changed daily, and possibly wont irritate the scalp when sleeping (no experience at all, like i said thats just what i assumed)

| I try to change Mina's everyday, but sometimes life gets in the way. Baby scrunchies can be found at Walmart. You can also find baby hair clips on the ile with brushes and combs. Dont leave a scrunchie or bow in your babys hair if you are going to leave them alone, like in their crate or expen. They could get it out and ingest it. I use laytex bands because the nonlaytex are slick and seem to come right out. When removing the band I cut it into several pieces so I dont pull hair or tear hair. |

toplinepet.com Another thing to try it moving the topknot more forward on the head to catch all the hairs. I like to use the latex bands because they stay more secure and won't slide off if he rubs his head. Since you have a puppy he doesn't have a lot of hair growth to catch IMO they will work better. If you want to use a bow I would suggest something very tiny. When I started using bows I bought the little clip bows from Jenny (topline pets) because they have a clip instead of a band. All you would need it to put the hair into a latex band and then clip the bow into the front of the topknot. I even think she just added new bows recently. My suggestion would be to use the very small 4/$1 bows . http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ries-back.html One last thing I would like to suggest when grooming is to make a place that you groom so that he knows it's grooming time. I like to use the top of my wash machine to groom. If you establish that it's grooming time he will be much more excepting to this time than trying to groom while he's sitting on your lap. I'll place a towel or rubber mat to make the area less slip resistant. Set up your area ahead of time so that you can just pick him up and begin to do your grooming. Since you have a puppy who is not use to being groomed I would suggest that you always keep on hand on him and if he's very uncooperative to even use his harness for a better grip. While grooming always speak to him in a calm and reassuring tone and even offer very tiny treats. I can't stress to you how important it is to make this a pleasant experience from a very early age.

| LOL I remember when I got Pixie I used to put her top knots in and my little guy at the time hated it so much when I did it to him, if he saw Pixie with a top knot he went to her and pulled hers out too. Nya loves to be primped and sits there for however long I need her to when I put a pony or piggy tails in her hair and she leaves them alone.....I am so lucky with her

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Lots of good info in this thread! I did not know you need to change them every day. I am not a Yorkie owner yet, but am loving YT because it is helping me to know so much beforehand! Thanks!!!

| Trying laytex or non laytex and deciding what you like is a good idea. There are also several band sizes. You will have to experiment to find the ones that you like. The scissors can be found on the bird or ferret ile at that petstore they are nail clippers for these animals. Bows come with bands, aligator clips or tiny hair clips. I prefer the hair clips for Mina but like the aligator clips for Taffy (pom). The adventure of finding what you like is part of the fun! As long as you are having fun and so is your baby its all good. |
