| Got a second Yorkie :) :( Sorry, this is going to be a bit longer post I have a boy yorkie, Bear, who just turned two years last week. He is about 9 pounds, beautiful cottony coat boy. Wanted to get him a playmate , yorkie girl for a while now, but was looking for a bit older and bigger puppy. Love "Teapot babies"! We got Bella yesterday, she is 18 weeks, 5 pounds ! I was more then happy when I got her yesterday, and Bella was doing great. She ate very well, played and slept normal. During the evening and thruout the night she started cauging, sounded like she has kennel cough ( per breeder's papers she is vacinated against kennel cough) Whe she woke up this morning, her left eye has a lot of discharge Called the breeder, he said she will be fine, probably just stressed out and to give her amoxicilin is eye infection persist ?! I will be taking her to the vet first thing tomorrow morning for a checkup and hoping she doesnt have any health issues. Watching her now as she sleeps, she seems to breathe much faster then Bear. Is that normal? Thank you btw, she has very thin silky golden/silver/ black coat. Does silky coat get thicker as the puppy grows up? |

| Sorry to hear your pup is sick. What color is the eye discharge? I'm concerned that your breeder would recommend an antibiotic when that would require a vet prescription.

| Just get the big baby to the vet as soon as possible and get her checked out. Take absolutely no chances with eyes - or coughs, for that matter. Unless your breeder is one of the very finest, there very well may be health issues - and even those breeders can have a dog that gets sick. Vaccination is seldom a 100% preventative - usually a hedge against the bug but no guarantee. So take the dog in and get a thorough checkup and with the help of good vetting, love that baby back to health if anything is wrong. If the vet doesn't seem to know what is wrong with the eye, find an opthalmologist. And hello to a fellow HOT Texan!!! Kind of warm lately, isn't it?

| Sorry to hear about your new baby. I say take to vet asap tomorrow. My male dog has the thin silky green black hair. He will be 2 in sept and we keep it short for summer, pretty much stays thin. Very easy to manage. My female has the cotton constant brushing hair. |

| Thank you all for your quick replies. And yes, it is " a bit" hot here in Dallas Can't wait 'till morning to take her to the vet. I have a feeling that she is ok, but have to know for sure, so I can stop worrying. My husband said whatever happens tomorrow, he is not giving her back, she already loves her. Me on the other side, I am not so sure what would I do if she has serious health issues. We had a German Shepherd who died at the age of 7 from kidney failure and a cat who died at the age of 5 from heart desease. I don't think I can go thru that kind of pain again. I also thought that is kind of weird from the breeder to recomend antibiotics, and there is no way I would give it to a dog without vet prescription. She ate very good today too, and seems overall very happy and playfull. Will keep you updated, and thanks again for your replies. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | First off, congrats on the new puppy. I'm glad you are taking her to the vet first thing, though if you are really concerned a trip to the ER vet this evening might be beneficial. I'm also thrilled to hear you say that you won't give the antibiotic without having the vet check her out first. I wish more people would be more careful about the willy nilly use of antibiotics.

| I wouldn't go down the really worried road just yet. It is probably just a cold (kennel cough with secondary eye issue or something). The vaccine can also cause a mild case. Just get pup checked out in the morning. If breathing is labored, go to the ER.

| There are "big time breeders" that stock their own medications and vaccinations and administer themselves. It's kind of strange that they would suggest you give a medication. Hope all works out OK. Sometimes an elevated body temperature will cause a more rapid respiratory rate. If her body was fighting something off before she left the breeder's she may very well have been too stressed to continue to fight it off. You may want to ask your vet if they know anything about the breeder. |

| Congrats on your new teapot girl and sorry about her cough and eye. I'm hoping that it's something minor and all will be well.

| Hope the vet visit goes well. And my yorkie Bailey has really silky fur and she is 4 tomorrow. And a coat should be silky, that's the breed standard. |
