Donating YT 30K Club Member | I'd love to know too! I am going to attemp to give Cali a bath and groom her tomorrow. I try combing her each day and she fights me the whole time! Is it better to groom when their tired out?

| It is mostly just consistency and frequency. Mine actually like it to a certain extent now because the brushing is like massage and they are used to having me do their hair. It used to always take two people but now I can do all of them by myself when I have to. The trick is not to let them get away with getting out of it with their shenanigans. They have to know that the sooner they hold still the sooner they are done and get to play or get a treat or someother reward you choose. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | He might not like the brush you're using - maybe try something different ? There are certain brushes my girls don't like... and some they are great with. I started grooming mine young....just gave them little head massages to get them used to it - I never forced them to be brushed so they just learned to enjoy it - I would wait till nighttime when he's tired and start just brushing to relax him -concentrating on his face and the parts he hates being brushed.... and just do it lightly to get him more used to sounds and feeling....... and then work your way up to maybe a bow or something.... Now lets talk about clipping nails - have you tried THAT yet ? Believe me - then you'll think grooming is a breeze |

I Love Thor Donating Member | Good question. Thor is terrible about sitting still for a brush out. Can you call it that? He tricks me. He'll relax, and act like he is going to settle down and then he does this jumpy thing and bolts. Sometimes I'm worried that the brissles are hurting him, but I am gentle. He got his first minnie mats the other day when I had his sweater on for a few hours in a row at the farmers market! I had to brush it out but he wasnt having it! Kudos to those who have either wonderful control, or patient dogs.... Hannah |

| Concerned Mommy, I started brushing Chloe from day one. I kept doing it every single night. The face and front paws she is picky about, but I just keep on trying. Now about the bow..for the longest time I thought I was never going to be able to put a tie on her head. Then around 7 months and tried it again and she let me put it on. I was so excited. Prior to that I was putting those clips that you move forward and back to close...you know which ones? How old is your baby? Good luck!

| Tiger went for his first grooming two weeks ago. He hated to be brushed and therefore had gotten some mats in his hair closer to his belly. You couldn't tell just by looking at him, but you could feel them. Anyway. . . the groomer did a great job on him and gave me one of her secrets. She uses a metal comb and winds a rubber band through it. The mats comb out and it does not hurt. He seems to like it much better than a brush. I have even been able to comb him and there's no running away. I guess you could use one made for people, but she sold these in her place. She just gave me this one and told me to continue using it and he would become more accustomed to being handled in this way. Hope this helps!
